  • “Are you working at Mr. Jian’s house today?” Dice asked, her body flickering with a kaleidoscope of colors. As they made their way through the dark alley, she’d taken to playing with her holographic light settings—partly to amuse Gala, partly because she still felt guilty about pointing a gun at him the other night. She knew his time was running short. The choice would have to be made soon. Still, she couldn't force him.
  • The shifting hues turned the alley into something that resembled a neon-lit nightclub—flashes of violet, deep blue, and red danced around them. Gala had once dreamed of being inside a place like that. Letting himself go, moving to the rhythm of loud music. But to get a ticket into one of those places? He’d have to think a hundred times before even trying.
  • “No. Mr. Jian messaged earlier—he's out of town for work,” Gala replied.
