• The darkness cloaking South Metro tonight was far more oppressive than in previous months. Gala returned home far later than usual, dragging two heavy garbage bags through the back door with what little strength he had left. The day had completely drained him—Mr. Kim’s restaurant had been hosting a massive promotional event, and it had taken every ounce of energy Gala had to keep up.
• Fortunately, maybe because of the overwhelming profits the hefty man had raked in, Mr. Kim had shown rare generosity: he let all the staff dine on the day’s specials.
• When Gala finally had a taste, he frowned. Hanry, the head chef, might be talented, but his food still didn’t compare to what Dice could whip up. Could the tech inside Dice really match—maybe even surpass—the skill of a professional chef?
