Chapter 2 Homewrecker

  • CORRIE
  • I lift my hands in the air once again to slap Mimi but Devon stopped me midway.
  • "Corrie are you out of your mind she's pregnant." Devon's voice was sulken in disappointment as he struggled to stop me.
  • "I-I can't breathe. It hurts.." Devon let's go of my hand as he runs over to Mimi, his right hand snaked round her waist and his left hand intertwined with hers.
  • She got even louder to the point I was sure it was just for attention. Everyone gasped running over to Mimi.
  • "Is she okay?"
  • "She seems pregnant."
  • "Why would she slap a pregnant woman?"
  • "Women supporting women in the mud."
  • "Is there a doctor in here? Someone's should help her."
  • Indistinct chatter bounced back and forth as I drowned out the noise and turned to Haven's casket. Even though this was his funeral, it was inevitable that Mimi would be the center of attention. The pallbearers carried Haven's casket and my heart dropped. I didn't get to say goodbye.
  • "W-Wait.." my voice echoed but they didn't stop as they moved towards the exit.
  • "Please," my voice fell, I felt a grip to my wrist, I struggled to free from it but it's grip was latched on to me.
  • I looked back to see Devon, a grim look on his face.
  • "Let me go." I screamed. "Let me fucking go Devon." My voice cracked as I tried to let myself free, even pinching him.
  • He flung me toward Mimi, and I hit the polished wooden floor with a thud, sprawled next to her.
  • "Apologize to my wife." His voice was dark and my eyes trailed to Haven's casket, they carried him away and I didn't even get to tell him how much I loved him.
  • My palms pressed the bare wooden floor, tears dropped one by one and I felt a bile rise in my throat.
  • "Apologize or I'll make sure you won't get a single drop of Alimony from me." My tears seemed to flow and I seem to laugh once again.
  • "I don't need it." I muttered with no emotion in my voice. I rise from my sprawled position as I walked past Devon dragging my feet.
  • "You do. Don't be stubborn Corrie. This is one of the reasons why Haven died." Devon muttered in a cocky tone, thinking this was one of my tactics to get his attention. My blood boiled, my head hurt the more.
  • "So you really think I killed my own son with my own hands?" I said turning slightly to face him.
  • "I didn't say that Corrie, don't put words in my mouth." Devon said in a grunt, a hint of guilt lingering in his voice.
  • "I'm not putting shit in your mouth. You blatantly accused me of killing Haven, so did that slut." I yelled pointing over to Mimi as two women cater to her.
  • "My wife is not a slut." Devon raised his voice in intimidation but I could care less. Previously I would be shaking at that tone, trying to appease him but now I didn't have to suck his balls any longer.
  • "Oh then having an affair with her, behind my back makes her what? Do you prefer homewrecker?" I purposely taunt the both of them as the women besides Mimi immediately let go of her. Disgust etched on their face as they glared at Mimi.
  • "We were just in love, you have no right to judge us." Mimi barked at me shamelessly, her reply made me Infuriated. I was conversing with idiots.
  • "You need that money. You spent everything on Haven's funeral. Just apologize and let's part ways." I was appalled at his audacity, yes, I spent everything on Haven's funeral because I didn't want to feel the guilt of not giving him the best even in death.
  • "If I have to apologize to her, then I don't want your money. I rather die than apologize to that murderer." Devon's eyes widened in surprise. He was probably expecting me to beg him, sprawl at his feet looking pathetic but I wasn't going to give him that feeling.
  • "You have no house to go to, no money, no friends and no child to drain me of child support. Don't be stubborn. You know you'll die without me, I'm your only family left." Once again that proud tone was sneered at me.
  • "I worry for you." Devon’s eyes glimmered with a quiet warmth, soft and searching, as though they held the weight of unspoken hope. Waiting in every bathed breath for my approval. For me to be vulnerable once more and depend on him.
  • I shake my head. "Worry about yourself Devon. Do you really think you'd go scott free after the shit you pulled today? You couldn't even let me mourn my baby in peace." I searched for his gaze
  • , my eyes burrowing into his.
  • "I promise you, if not today, one-day Devon. I'll make you wish you were dead."
