- Nightshade dragged me by the hair, and I stumbled after him. He pulled me back into the tent and shoved me forward. I landed hard on my wrists, pain radiating up my arms as my wounds screamed in protest.
- “Look,” he barked, towering over me. “The Alpha may have spared your life, but I don’t recall agreeing to that.” His voice was like gravel against steel, low and grating. He crouched down, locking eyes with me. “Simpleton might’ve been soft, but I liked him. Maybe if I’d listened to him when he said I should’ve sliced your throat like cabbage, he’d still be breathing. But I didn’t. And now, that choice? It lives here.” He tapped his temple.
