Chapter 4 A Single Phone Call

  • “Look into the Wallace family of Nebula City and all of the companies it owns,” Alex ordered.
  • “Are you planning on getting at him, Mr. Jefferson? Would you like me to help you with that?” Charlie asked.
  • “That'd be too obvious. She'll notice something is off. I need to make it look like Four Seas Corporation is behind it. You can just assist Four Seas Corporation from the side,” Alex replied.
  • “Four Seas Corporation... Are you planning on acquiring the company, Mr. Jefferson?”
  • “Yeah, I am. The time is right. I worked there as a security guard to scope the place out. Not only is it in a decent location, but the CEO, Jack Sawyer, also seems like a capable person worthy of investing in. I'll go have a chat with him today.”
  • “Understood, Mr. Jefferson!”
  • Alex then hung up the phone and stomped on his cigarette to put it out.
  • It's time to say goodbye to this submissive life...
  • Later that day, Alex returned to Four Seas Corporation on his electric scooter.
  • He went there to see Jack and get his wage but was stopped by James upon arrival at the office building.
  • James' lackey, Adam Bane, who was the team leader of the security guards, followed closely behind him.
  • “I'm surprised you have the audacity to come back here, Alex!” James shouted angrily while waving his fist in the air.
  • “Why wouldn't I come back? I told you, I'm here to collect my wage,” Alex replied calmly.
  • James burst out laughing when he heard that. “Your wage? You got fired, Alex! We don't pay employees their wages if they get fired! In fact, you won't even be getting your deposit back!”
  • Alex narrowed his eyes and asked with a smile, “Are you sure you won't pay me my wage?”
  • “Who do you think you are? You're in no position to make demands!” Adam interrupted.
  • “It's company policy, Alex. I can't pay you your wage even if I wanted to,” James said with a nonchalant shrug.
  • “Company policy, huh? All right, then. Looks like I'll have to speak to Mr. Sawyer about this,” Alex replied while making his way upstairs.
  • James burst out laughing and said with a mocking grin, “Go ahead! I'll get down on my knees for you if Mr. Sawyer agrees to pay you your wage!”
  • Alex turned around and flashed him a smile. “Okay, you'd better get ready to do that, then.”
  • With that, he went upstairs and headed straight to Jack's office.
  • Adam spat in disdain and said ingratiatingly, “I can't believe that piece of trash has the audacity to go confront Mr. Sawyer! He'll be done for this time, and we won't even need to lift a finger!”
  • James grinned gleefully from ear to ear when he heard that.
  • “Who are you? Which department are you from?” Jack asked with a frown when he saw Alex barge into his office without knocking.
  • His secretary followed Alex into the office and explained, “This is Alex Jefferson, one of our security guards. He insisted on seeing you, Mr. Sawyer. I couldn't stop him.”
  • She even shot Alex a furious glare after saying that.
  • This man sure is rude! He just shoved me aside when I refused to let him in!
  • “Security guard?” There was a hint of anger on Jack's face as he asked, “What do you want?”
  • Alex sat down on the couch in front of Jack and said nonchalantly, “I don't mind you guys firing me without a valid reason, but withholding my wage and my deposit is too much. I demand an explanation for this, Mr. Sawyer.”
  • Barging into my office and confronting me about his wage? Who does this security guard think he is?
  • Jack's eyes were filled with anger as he asked the secretary, “What's going on here?”
  • “The news of Alex's wife cheating on him spread all over the city, so everyone is now gossiping about it. James, the manager of the security department, felt that it had a huge impact on our company's image, so he decided to fire Alex. You weren't in at the time, so I gave the approval on your behalf,” the secretary explained.
  • Honestly, this guy has got to be the most pathetic person I've ever seen...
  • With that in mind, Jack shot Alex a disdainful look as he said, “Alex, was it? Your personal affair has seriously affected the company's image, so James firing you was completely justified.”
  • “I'm fine with that. Just pay me my wage, and I'll leave,” Alex replied calmly.
  • “It has always been part of this company's policy to have the employees who damage the company's reputation compensate the company for any losses incurred as a result. Since you've been fired, it is only natural that we withhold your wage and deposit,” Jack said with a frown.
  • Alex let out a chuckle. “Mr. Sawyer, do you think you can take advantage of me just because I'm a lowly security guard?”
  • His nonchalant attitude was really starting to annoy Jack.
  • “As I said, this is company policy. Now, get out before I take action against you!” Jack yelled angrily.
  • Alex maintained a smile on his face as he looked at Jack and said, “As expected of the wealthiest man in Nebula City. I respect the fact that you're an assertive man, Mr. Sawyer. However, I am a man of principles, and I won't let anyone deny me something that belongs to me. So, bring it on, Mr. Sawyer. Let's see what action you'll take against me.”
  • “You insolent b*stard!” Jack shouted furiously.
  • He then turned toward the secretary and ordered in an authoritative tone, “Go tell Tim and his partner to come over right this instant!”
  • He was referring to his two bodyguards.
  • “Right away, Mr. Sawyer!” his secretary replied with a nod and left in a hurry.
  • Jack kept his hostile gaze fixated on Alex as he waited.
  • A few seconds later, two burly young men opened the door and came running into the office.
  • Feeling emboldened by the presence of his bodyguards, Jack ordered, “Get this piece of trash out of here!”
  • He's nothing but a worthless loser who doesn't even have the respect of his wife! How dare he cause trouble in my office? It'll be humiliating if people find out about this!
  • Those words had barely left his mouth when the two bodyguards moved to Alex and grabbed him by the shoulders.
  • A vicious glint formed in Alex's eyes as he took a step back and grabbed them both by the wrists.
  • Crack!
  • Crack!
  • Two loud cracking noises could be heard when he broke their wrists.
  • “Aaaarghhh!” the bodyguards screamed in pain and agony.
  • They were mercenaries who survived the Brecknock War and could easily defeat ten or more men in unarmed combat, and yet, they had their wrists broken by a skinny young man.
  • Just how strong is this guy?
  • Their eyes were filled with fear as they stared at Alex.
  • Jack and his secretary, too, were shocked speechless by what they had just witnessed.
  • Did a lowly security guard just single-handedly defeat two highly-paid bodyguards? Talk about adding insult to injury!
  • Alex dusted his hands off and flashed Jack a mocking sneer. “Do you have any more bodyguards you'd like to send my way? Have them all come at once!”
  • Naturally, Jack did not take kindly to that taunt.
  • How dare this b*stard mock me?
  • “Do you have a death wish or something? Keep in mind that I am the wealthiest man in Nebula City! I could destroy your life completely with just one phone call!” he shouted while glaring daggers at Alex.
  • “Is that so? Believe it or not, I can destroy your life completely with one phone call as well! Do you want to give it a try, Mr. Sawyer?” Alex retorted with a disdainful chuckle.
  • Jack exploded with anger after having his authority challenged. “As if!”
  • “Don't believe me?”
  • With a sadistic grin on his face, Alex pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
