Chapter 6

  • Finja Longarm
  • I was seething, not only did Alpha King Coldfurgus act inappropriately in front of everyone, he thought it was funny. That he could seriously get away with it as if it would be fine with me. Alpha King or not, I was not going to allow him to place his hands on my body without my permission.
  • My father brought me into his embrace, sheltering me from Alpha King Coldfurgus's view. Pounding his feet, The Alpha King returned to his seat. Motioning for the musicians to continue to play.
  • “If I had known this is how the Alpha King would conduct himself, I would have ushered you out of here a long time ago,” Father said to me as I glared at the dance floor. Watching Zehna and Beta Howley dance. “It appeared to me as if you were having fun speaking with Alpha Myres.”
  • Still unsettled, I huffed out loud, “I was having a great time! Alpha Myres was telling me stories of Unnash. From the different locations in the North to their everyday lives. It was great to hear his point of view. Don't get me wrong, I love to hear tales from you, but they are stories handed down from parent to child and they continue onto the next generation. Alpha Myres is from Unnash, he has first hand knowledge.” I was slowly calming down as I recalled the conversation. "Alpha Myres brought life to his tales, something that I could see in my mind!"
  • Beta Venmos spoke to his son, “Brodey why do you not offer to have the next dance with Lady Finja? Showing her what a true gentleman you are and how a gentleman should behave!”
  • Beta Brodey had stepped towards me. At first, I thought he was going to come up with an excuse to stay as far away from me as possible. “Lady Finja, would you like to join me on the dance Floor?” Beta Brodey held out his hand in offering.
  • I did a quick glance at my father, and with a nod of his head and a smile on his face, I brought my attention back to Beta Brodey. Placing my hand in his, “of course!” I said politely.
  • I knew those with taste and class felt bad for not stopping the disgusting show that had occurred not long ago. Though, how could they? If anyone had stood up, Alpha King would have taken it as a challenge. I am sure all parties here did not want this to happen.
  • I have seen my fair share of Alpha King Coldfurgus's attacks, each of them was a verbal attack. No one dares to stand up to the Alpha King Coldfurgus. His words are beyond insulting! The receiver of the Alpha King's assault simply stands there. It is not like many could say something in return. If the Alpha King wishes he could place you in the dungeons. Only to find that charges have been placed against you and the punishment is death.
  • So many feel helpless so they stand there like a nitwit, accepting the public humiliation.
  • The tension was so thick as I placed one foot in front of the other aiming for the middle of the dance floor. I could feel Alpha King Coldfurgus's eye on me. I could tell he was angry. I figured it had something to do with the communication between the males and me. Add in the fact I walked off the dance floor leaving him there. This was something he was not used to. Rejection!
  • Beta Brodey was guarding me, sparks ignited in our hands, signalling that there was indeed a mate bond. Schooling my face, I did not allow anyone to see what was transpiring between Beta Brodey and myself.
  • Not that I did not believe that Beta Brodey could not handle himself against the Alpha King. But for this night there had been too much drama. I was tired of it all. The Alpha King had made it publicly known and well aware of his interest. Now I had to find a way to get away from the Alpha King without having one of my family members killed.
  • Looking at Beta Brodey I could only see pain. When we danced on the dance floor, he might have had his facial expression set on content. But he was anything but happy! I wondered if this pain may be the reason that he was scowling at me earlier. Could he be having the worst of luck when it came to the mate bond? The longer he was around me, the more intense his pain was becoming. I could feel his emotions!
  • 'He lost someone he dearly loved!' I could hear my own voice in my mind.
  • The music had ended, and Beta Brodey took me over to my father. With a polite bow, he stepped away! “That is how a gentleman conducts themselves in the company of a lady!” Beta Brodey made sure his words were loud enough for all to hear.
  • I gave Beta Brodey a genuine smile. Grinning up at him watching him leave the location.
  • 'So much pain!' I thought to myself.
  • Alpha Zevar held out his hand, he was the next to ask me to join him on the dance floor. The music played, while many enjoyed moving their body to the music.
  • "If you enjoy the music and dancing here, you will enjoy an Unnasharin party more! The music is not as sombre, but more lively!" Alpha Zevar said with a smile as the first note was strummed.
  • "And how would you describe the music?" I asked hoping he would elaborate on the conversation further.
  • Alpha Zevar thought about his words, "The rhythmic frequent changes in tempo, and various prolongations, and the singer is not only singing to an audience but he or she is singing to the land or our ancestors. We believe in honouring the spirits and those who were before us! Keeping the traditions that have been handed down from grandparents to the children. Through music, this is just one of the many ways we keep our identity!"
  • *Vision*
  • I inhaled sharply as I could feel my vision slipping. I could hear the Alpha speaking but it was faded.
  • Alpha Zevar was sitting at a desk, I could only assume this was his office from his homeland. In front of him was a document! Glancing at it, there had been a paper stating that the bloodline of Bloodrose had been exonerated from the allegations and prosecution of Levreh Bloodrose. That the exile had been lifted, any descendants of Levreh Bloodrose for now given Royal permission to travel the northern lands and territories.
  • Alpha Zevar folded the document, placed it in an envelope, poured red wax on the folds, and stamped it with the Bodfor seal.
  • “Rimvan is hoping to resettle his family to a small part here. Wishing to live in the land that his grandmother once had called home.” Alpha Myres was telling his brother.
  • Clearing his throat, “if we are lucky, one of our children will mate one of Rimvan’s offspring. This will bring the bloodlines back together. After what Balvalur has done to our two families. This might mend things!”
  • “It will be nice to have this messy business finely and fully behind us!” Beta Vemos added to the conversation.
  • My sight was starting to clear up from what I had seen. I questioned if I should tell my father the good news or not. My father has only ever wished to leave the South and go back to where his heart has longed to be.
  • I smiled at the thought! I was a traveller at heart, father always told me that before settlements had been erected, the Bloodrose clan would travel the northern terrain, sometimes venturing south a bit. He would tell me it was our ancestors speaking to me that I was never meant to be in one place for long.
  • Alpha Zevar had guided me off the dance floor and back to my father. With a polite bow, Alpha Myres had asked my permission for the next dance.
  • I knew my father would give his approval, yet I repeated my actions as I had with the other two gentlemen. Glancing at my father I paused to see what his response would be. Nodding his head, I took Alpha Myres' hand.
  • From the location where Alpha King Coldfurgus was standing. Snarky remarks had been spoken. The group cackled at what the Alpha King had said.
  • "Do not worry, soon things will all be over!" Alpha Myres whispered in my ear.
  • I was puzzled, not sure what to make of what he had spoken. I studied his face then his eyes. There was more behind what he was saying. It was code, something he understood and as the receiver of this code, I had to figure it out.
  • The longer I glared into this wonderful man's eye, I could tell he wished to say more than just give me a wide smile. Though he chose to keep all words to himself. Probably for good reasons! The Alpha King may not have good hearing, but those around him were wolves. They did not have the hearing of a dire wolf but still could hear well enough.
  • I flared my nose as the unwarranted comments came out one after another. Not only trying to insult me but poor Alpha Myres. The music had begun and the dancing commenced.
  • Taking his hand I could feel my mind becoming foggy.
  • *Vision*
  • I could see a map as Alpha Zevar was speaking. “I will have to make sure Alpha Bluffs gets these new changes. My men will be here no later than thirty days. I expect that Alpha Bluff can get to the group before they reach here, informing them of the changes.” He tapped the page, “my men should be at Dark Crystal Castle in two days. Once they have refilled their supplies they will leave.”
  • In the vision, I could see my father's face. I could hear my father's voice, “That she is!” The smile he once had disappeared. “Our agreement still stands? My family is not to be harmed!”
  • My vision cleared. Focusing on smiling, I waited for the music to end. I did not know what to make of what I had seen. This event had happened recently, that I could tell.
  • When the men came here they had their beards, in the vision their facial hair was on their faces. Now it had been cut off completely or trimmed to a manageable length.
  • I was starting to connect the dots, with what I had seen in the visions and the words Alpha Myres had spoken. If my hypothesis were correct, something was going to happen that I was sure I was not supposed to be involved in.
  • When the music had finished, Alpha Myres ushered me back to my father. Bowing my head to Alpha Myres I thanked him for the lovely dance.
  • Turning my head to the side I spotted Prince Zek and Jezebel heading our way. I was about to call it a night when Prince Zek asked for a turn on the dance floor. In his hand there happened to be a red scarf. It only took one glance in his eyes for me to know what was about to happen.
  • Sighing, I ignored the aching in my feet. Accepting the offer, with a polite bow and taking Prince Zek's hand, Jezebel strolled over to her parents.
  • "Are you for the most part enjoying yourself?" Prince Zek asked as we took our spot on the dance floor.
  • "I have found a few things that have redeemed this event!"
  • "If I had known what my father was going to do, I would have never ordered you here. And I would never have ..."
  • "Your apology is accepted and you are forgiven!" I forced a grin on my face.
  • With great effort, I did not turn my head when I heard Alpha King Coldfurgus comment how even his son will not touch the harlot and has to use a scarf to dance with me. Only the barbaric northerners would think of touching a whore.
  • With one glance at Prince Zek, he gave me the expression to tell me to ignore what was being said.
  • I positioned it so that the Alpha King would see my back, whispering, "Animal control should be called, there is a stray in here that is barking a lot!"
  • Smirking at me, we waited for the music to begin.
  • Prince Zek had gone to the musicians requesting this song. The song the musicians arranged to play required us to hold a scarf instead of hand in hand. An ancient dance that his mother once taught us, that she brought with her from her homeland.
  • Taking the end of the scarf my vision started to haze over.
  • *Vision*
  • I saw Prince Zek standing in front of a mirror holding the red silk scarf.
  • Prince Zek was talking while looking at his reflection. “My father has gone mad! He has always been this way but his obsession with you has only gotten worse. He plans on making you his wife with or without your consent. I heard him say to my uncle, that if you say no, my father will capture your father and force you to say yes. My father is evil, he will do anything to get his way. Find reasons to stay away from the castle. I have no idea when he plans on doing this. You are not safe here … no one can save you from my father!”
  • Prince Zek looked so defeated! He wanted to protect me but had no idea how he would do this. The only way he could keep me safe was for me not to be here at the castle.
  • Holding the red scarf tighter in his hand, “I hope you get this message! If you do, say our code!”
  • I blinked three times, getting my vision to clear up.
  • Turning my head so that I could see Prince Zek, I smiled at him, giving him a nod, “Ten by ten!”
  • This was the code we had created when I showed Prince Zek my gift. This was the only way he could pass me messages that no one could hear. He might not have realized it, but his passing messages like this have helped in the past.
  • Besides my family, Prince Zek and Beta Morris were the only ones who knew I could touch objects and see things. Though I was sure that the two had told their wives, nothing was mentioned to me.
  • Without saying another word, we enjoyed the remainder of the dance. Instead of having Prince Zek take me to my father, I left Prince Zek with Jezebel and her parents.
  • Getting over to my father, I asked if it would be appropriate to leave. My father had glanced at me asking me to wait as Zehna and Beta Howley were on the dance floor. Studying Zehna, it almost appeared as if she was growing a little crush on the Bodfor brother. They both were smiling and laughing, showing that they were having a great time.
  • The dance had finished as I bid a good night to my friends. Ire handed me a button, letting me know that it had fallen off my cloak.
  • *Vision*
  • Morris was standing in front of the bathroom mirror.
  • "Interaction between us has to stop, Zek's father has just threatened the both of us with death if we should go around you. He is mad with jealousy! His obsession with you has turned deadly."
  • Morris appeared scared out of his mind.
  • "Coldfurgus has threatened to hurt the girls first, then make Ire and Jezebel watch as they slowly kill us. If it is possible spend the rest of the quarterly gathering at your parents place. Stay out of the public eye."
  • Morris turned his head as if he heard something. Glaring back at the mirror he continued to whisper, "We will try to get you out of the capital once things are safe. PLEASE Finja, remain away from the castle and away from the king's guards."
  • I blinked several times before I placed the button into the pocket. "I will mend things when I get home.
