Chapter 208 Encounter (Two)

• Alex Hunter kicked his football laconically into the gravel in front of his mother’s house, feeling like the world’s most horrible kid. He had yelled at his mother this morning, and he had made her cry. What was worse was that he hadn’t even apologized, and to top things off, he had ignored her when she told him to get dressed so that they could go over to Emma’s mom’s place so that he could go to the movies with Emma, Taylor, and their mom’s boyfriend.
• He hated to see his mother sad and was generally a good kid, but today he had been bad. His mother was a nice woman who did her best to give him a good life, and she did not deserve the tantrum that he had thrown this morning, telling her he hated her and all that. So, she might not even be remotely as rich as Emma’s mother or Dan, not to talk of Emma’s father, but she made sure that he never lacked anything.
• The thing was that he knew that she was lying about his dad being dead. If not, why did she always try to change the subject each time he had brought it up in the past? Besides, he had overheard her once talking about how his dad was in prison. So maybe his dad had done something bad, but at least he still had a dad. His classmate, Brenda’s dad was in prison, but her mom took her to visit him all the time, and Brenda said he was very nice to her. Why didn’t his own mother want him to see his father? Taylor and Emma had their dad, and Alex always felt left out whenever they were with him, even though Ryan was a nice man and tried to make him fit in. Now, they also had this Trevor guy too. It just wasn’t fair.
