• Who could that be? I held my breath as anxiety settled over me like a fog. Why would someone be trying to open the door? Could the duke have figured out my identity. My gaze moved from the door to the window. And without hesitation my legs moved toward it. I could jump out and escape but it was a bit high, I was likely to injure myself or get caught by the guards outside.
