Chapter 6

  • CONFUSED
  • Roxanne opened her mouth, incredulously, her bulging eyes reflecting the shock. I was amused to see her so surprised, why else would I be here with her?
  • "What? What do you mean it's yours? She asked confused. "Do you want a child?" "That's why... f-that's why you were there? " She stammered, nervous at the revelation.
  • Even though the news had caught her off guard, she was right where I wanted it to be. I didn't like to leave loose ends, and in this case, it was my heir. At first, I was only thinking about a simple sperm donation, but in the face of my loneliness, I understood that my legacy would not be complete without a child.
  • I shrugged my shoulders and gave him an indifferent grin.
  • "I'm not going to lie to you, that's the reason. You just have to give me the baby when it is born, and you will be completely free."
  • As weak as she looked, Roxanne clenched her fists so tightly that her knuckles turned white, and her face, ablaze with anger, seemed about to burst. I could almost see fire coming out of his eyes.
  • "I'm not going to give you, my son! It's mine. How do I explain it to you? I went to a fertility clinic because I," she pointed to herself, "I want a child. There's no way I'm going to hand it over to a stranger, are you crazy?"
  • "I'm no stranger," I replied, calmly. "I am the father of the child you carry in your womb. I am the donor. By the way, it's very good. The doctor did an ultrasound while you were sleeping to make sure of his condition, and he is perfect."
  • Roxanne, instinctively, placed both hands on her belly. And at that moment, tears began to slide down his cheeks uncontrollably.
  • "This has to be a joke... It can't be happening to me, not to me! "She said between sobs.
  • "I think the same," I said with a sarcastic smile. "A great coincidence that the guy who owes me millions of dollars is your husband. Honestly, I thought you were classier."
  • "But who do you think you are to insult me like that?" She replied, gritting her teeth, biting his lips and shaking her head.
  • "Well, first of all, I'm the father of your son. And second, you should stay calm. You're pregnant, and after your "accident," you need to calm down. Or do you want something to happen to our child?" I crossed my leg slowly, settling into the chair as cold as in my words.
  • "You're completely crazy," she spat, her eyes full of anger. "I'll have to report to the police. Besides, you have me here against my will, that's kidnapping."
  • I rolled my eyes. I wasn't kidnapped, I was free to leave, only that I was carrying something that belonged to me and, unfortunately, I couldn't take it from her womb, and she had to give it to me.
  • "You can't go to the police," I replied calmly, leaning toward her. "Because terrible things could happen. Maybe some not-so-kind men will decide to visit your grandmother. "And you wouldn't like that, would you?"
  • Panic flooded her face. Although my warnings were harsh, I was only trying to persuade her, and the way she reacted was entertaining to me.
  • "I have to go... you're a madman... I have to go," she said, getting up in despair. She began to tear off the wires furiously, but suddenly her strength faltered, and her head fell on the pillow, crumbling.
  • "Keep calm," I said in a calm tone. "It is important that you are calm. I will take care of you, and as long as you are with me, you will not lack anything."
  • "I don't need that," she replied, breathing heavily. "I can go home, I have company, money. I can do it alone."
  • I let out a dry laugh.
  • "What house? Which company? The one that your "dear" husband lost in gambling and drugs. It seems that you are not understanding anything, Roxanne. You and your husband owe me too much."
  • Roxanne let out another cry, this time more nostalgic, as she turned to the window.
  • "I owe you absolutely nothing... Why are you doing this to me, Salvatore?"
  • I was silent, choosing my words carefully. How do I explain to her that all this was a cruel play of fate? I had no idea that the idiot Andrew's wife was carrying my son in her womb. I didn't want to hurt her, I knew that if she was okay, my son would be too. But I needed him to stay by my side, at all costs.
  • She sobbed, sucking in her nose as her chest fluttered with each tear. A twinge of guilt ran through me, making me feel like a wretch for pressing her into her state. But I couldn't let her go. I took a deep breath and returned to my controlled posture.
  • "I don't care what you say," I replied, coldly. "Your husband's debts are your debts. And, as I told you from the beginning, you're already paying. You will leave the day my son is born. Only then will you be free."
  • Roxanne, with tears still streaming down her face, wiped herself with the sheet and looked at me again. His eyes, swollen and his face pale, showed his frowning. He frowned and, in a defiant tone, fired:
  • "What if I say no?" What's going on? "
  • She held my gaze, trying to intimidate me. But that was something that, with me, just didn't work.
  • "If you say no, it's simple: you die," I said, although it was a dark lie.
  • "Kill me! Do it at once! " She cried out in despair. "Because I will never give up my son. You have no idea how much I wanted it, how much I've struggled to have it. Neither you nor anyone else is going to take it away from me. I'd rather be dead."
  • I was silent. A small smile appeared in the corner of my mouth.
  • "I'll keep you alive, even if you don't want to," I replied calmly.
  • "Ahh! I want to go home. Doctor! Help! " She began to scream, but suddenly her face turned even paler, and, without warning, she fainted.
  • I ran out to look for the doctor, who arrived quickly to attend to her. He took her vital signs and did some tests. Roxanne had regained consciousness, but she was extremely weak. Strong emotions had affected her. Finally, she fell asleep.
  • "It is better for her to rest, Mr. Gianluca. You should rest too, she's in good hands," the doctor told me, giving me the calm I didn't have.
  • "I don't want to go anywhere," I replied without giving in. "She is carrying my son. I want to make sure they'll both be okay."
  • The doctor frowned and shook his head.
  • "She will be fine, Mr. Gianluca, but she needs to rest. And another thing: she can't have any more strong emotions, or stress. Her condition is delicate, and she needs complete calm."
  • I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time, feeling that this was all a waste of time.
  • "Okay! But I warn you, doctor, if something happens to you while I am gone, you will be solely responsible."
  • I walked out, taking one last look at Roxanne's room. I couldn't risk something going wrong. I commissioned two of my men to guard the door, and then went to rest, though my mind was still alert. When I got home, I instructed my employees to prepare a room for her. Roxanne would live with me, at least until my son was born.
  • There was no turning back.
