Chapter 39

  • Narrator
  • Two glasses were knocked over in celebration of Andrew’s latest victory—holding his wife on a call for more than five minutes, the perfect triumph for Renato to track their location. How tender that conversation with his beloved wife had been. Renato, however, was already gearing up to find Roxanne, no matter what the consequences. "But that bitch is tough; she doesn't even care about her grandmother’s well-being." Andrew angrily shook his glass as he stared out the window. At times, he missed his ex-wife, as living with Samara Estefanía wasn’t nearly as magical as he had once imagined. Renato shrugged and slowly made his way toward Andrew. He slapped him on the back with such force that the man nearly knocked his teeth against the glass, and Renato snorted. “I don’t want Roxanne to come willingly. We’ll go get her and bring her here to keep her in this house until my son is born. That’s the only thing that matters to me.” Renato’s expression was one of cold control.
  • Andrew frowned. Every time Renato spoke about his son, he was really referring to the child who had once been Andrew’s, and the anger it stirred in him was unbearable. “Now, you need to fulfill your part. Besides transferring all my money, you need to guarantee that my wife and I will be safe.” Andrew finally said, struggling to keep his anger in check. Renato flashed a Machiavellian smile, looking at him with thinly veiled irony. “When you say ‘your wife,’ which one do you mean? Roxanne or Samara?” Renato’s gaze was filled with disdain, his smile mocking.
