Chapter 106 One Hundred And Sixt
- LUCAS POV
- It was a lie, I kept telling myself as I walked out of Aunt Maeve’s house and drove straight to Edward’s. He was lying to me, and I was going to call him out on his bullshit. It didn’t matter if Aunt Maeve claimed it was true—what did she know, anyway? She’d been absent for most of my life, only to show up now with that pitying face, telling me Edward wasn’t my father. I didn’t believe her. If it were true, she wouldn’t have agreed so easily when I asked. She could have lied, could have called my bluff to protect me from the truth. She could have called Edward herself to scold him for even suggesting it. She could have soothed my ego. But she didn’t.
- She is not your mother, the voice in my head rang out. Only a mother would act that way.
