• It was the uncomfortable, pounding headache in my skull that woke me up. It moved when I moved, and so I just opened my eyes in frustration; it wouldn’t let me sleep. Maybe if I had not taken as much as I took the night before, then I would sleep peacefully. I sighed and turned my head to the side, then froze.
• Lucas sat on a chair, just watching me. My purse was open on the table beside him, and my phone was in his hands. He kept swinging it back and forth, his eyes on me. My heart beat very wildly in my chest. Lucas and I has had very little to no confrontation at all. We’d met a couple of times, but he avoided him as I did him. How did we come to be in a single room?
