Chapter 9 A Smug Charlotte

  • At this moment, Sebastian's temperament was icy, exuding an inexplicable swagger. He trod word the security under Sandy and Dustin's surprised gaze.
  • The security guards were also taken aback as they hurriedly primped their already neat uniforms.
  • "I'm your new boss, Sebastian Baker. This is my fiancé, Sandy Evans. Let us in," ordered Sebastian expressionlessly.
  • "I'm sorry, but we don't know who you are. We have to confirm with the manager first," the chief security guard responded.
  • "You don't know me?" questioned Sebastian.
  • "Our new boss is one mysterious billionaire. Other than President Sydney, no one has seen him before, so we can't trust your words that easily. Please give us a moment. Once the manager is here, you can enter."
  • "Where is President Sydney?" A sense of foreboding welled inside him.
  • "She left not long ago."
  • The apprehension in him swelled after he heard the security guard's words. Meanwhile, Dustin watched him with weary and uneasy eyes.
  • Before long, the security manager came. Taking a look at Sebastian, he replied with a cold gaze, "I don't know this person."
  • "Sir, he said that he's Sebastian Baker," said the security guard.
  • "There have been three developers claiming that they're Sebastian's friend since yesterday. Haven't you guys learned your lesson? Who do you think Mr. Baker is? Is he someone that anyone can meet?" the manager chided.
  • "No, sir." The security guards hung their heads low.
  • As Sebastian had expected, the manager could not recognize him as he forgot about the fact that he had not revealed himself to the public upon purchasing Montes Group. Therefore, no one saw him before aside from Noah.
  • This is getting awkward.
  • The same stifling feeling surged in his chest as he cast his gaze onto Dustin and Sandy.
  • "For goodness sake. You got me there! I seriously thought you're their boss!" Dustin patted his chest and wiped off the sweat on his forehead.
  • No one had seen what the boss of Montes Group looked like, nor did he. He witnessed how confident Sebastian was a while ago; despite the ordinary tracksuit, Sebastian exerted an aura of a president.
  • "Mr. Smith, you're here." The security manager let out a sycophantic expression upon noticing Dustin's presence.
  • "Grayson, are you promoted to a security manager?" Dustin recognized Grayson Spade too.
  • They were quite close as Grayson was in the purchasing team of the cafeteria in Montes Group. He learned Koryu martial arts for a few years when he was young, but his wish was not granted when Griffin was handling the company. On one hand, the Smith Family was amiable and they managed to form a good rapport with every echelons in Montes Group. Thus, Dustin and Grayson had known each other all along.
  • Now that Grayson had become the security manager, Dustin was wreathed in smiles. "That's great! I was looking for someone to help us out."
  • "What's the matter, Mr. Smith?" asked Grayson.
  • "After the takeover, the deal between Montes Group and my family was canceled. I made an appointment, but I'm not sure what to say once I meet Mr. Baker."
  • "That's easy. Come, have some coffee in my office. I'll inform President Sydney of your visit once she's back."
  • "Sure." In front of Sebastian and Sandy, they conversed while bypassing the security at which Dustin tidied up his suit and exclaimed, "Trash."
  • Never in his wildest dream did Sebastian imagine himself being stopped at the security at his own company, whereas his love rival wandered in with ease. Almost instantly, his face was burning in embarrassment.
  • "We're no match for Dustin." Sandy sighed.
  • "Sandy, don't worry." He became anxious as he looked at the security guard. "When will President Sydney return?"
  • "Beats me." The security guard shook his head.
  • Recalling the fact that he had saved Noah's contact number, he quickly fished out his phone to give her a call when Sandy's phone suddenly rang.
  • He could vaguely hear her speaking over the phone and he noticed the joyful surprise in her eyes. When she put down her phone, she piped up, "Let's go home."
  • "What's wrong?" questioned Sebastian.
  • "We got the deal."
  • "We got it?"
  • "Yeah. It seems like President Sydney came to my house to offer us a seven million worth contract because she's confident in our capability. What a relief!" Sandy grabbed his shoulders tightly in excitement.
  • Although he felt a little dizzy, he gradually cottoned on the situation along the way back.
  • Noah was a very capable person as she could understand his words, albeit succinctly informed. Through the cancellation of the cooperation with Dustin, it was possible that she guessed the discord between him and Dustin and also discovered the relationship he had with the Baker Family. In order to repay his magnanimity for rallying her, Noah especially paid a visit to the Evanses to offer a seven million worth deal.
  • Even though Sebastian approved her efficiency, the way she settled it was quite enigmatic to him.
  • In the end, he and Sandy had been busy for nothing. Not only did he not receive any respect from the Evans Family, Dustin managed to shine through in front of him. Now, he was living up to the 'good-for-nothing' title in Sandy's heart. In spite of the indifferent attitude toward fame and fortune, and the predilection to keep a low profile, he was inevitably angry.
  • Arriving at Evans Residence, he saw Charlotte and Mandy in different attires from before. They were having tea in the living room with satisfaction as a fancy scented candle was lit.
  • With a smug expression, Charlotte noticed their return. Her good mood saved him from her jeering as she waved the scented aroma to herself while narrowing her eyes in contentment.
  • "Mom, did we get the deal from Montes Group?" inquired Sandy.
  • "Yes, we did." Charlotte smiled while tapping on a document on the table with her finger.
  • "That's great! You have nothing to worry about anymore."
  • "Yeah. Your grandmother won't look down on us now."
  • "We're gonna be rich!" Mandy giggled.
  • "Rich? It's not our contract. It belongs to the Evans Family. No matter how much money it can rake in, it's not our company. We can get one million and five hundred thousand from the seven million worth contract at most. After it's splitted among the family—including your two uncles—there'll be about three hundred thousand in our hands. Not bad." Charlotte calculated coldly.
  • "Regardless, Grandma won't take it out on us since you got the deal, right?" Sandy added.
  • "That is for sure." Charlotte took a sip of tea and gave Sebastian a sideway glance. "I know how it works now. One must be strong to forge an iron. Montes Group will find their way to the doorstep if one is capable enough. Dustin and Stuart are all useless. The Evans Family still has to depend on the ladies to survive after all."
