Chapter 12 A Fake Watch

  • Alexis, who was materialistic, changed a lot after marrying Rickon. Up to eight friends of hers were coming for Sandy's birthday, so she and Rickon decided to come back early.
  • With the intention of showing off in front of Sebastian, she smiled after the brief silence in the house.
  • "This is my present to you, Sandy." She took out a beautiful box in front of Sebastian.
  • Inside the box lay an intricately designed Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet.
  • There were a lot of gemstones on it with various colors and it cost thirty thousand.
  • "Sandy, this bracelet was chosen by me and your sister. Do you like it?" Rickon asked in a perverted tone.
  • "It's Van Cleef and Arpels!" Mandy shrieked and placed the bracelet in her hands.
  • As a beautiful girl that she was, she liked to wear white sailor uniforms and pair it with a short skirt, a belt and knee-length socks, which highlighted the curves of her legs.
  • "I fancied this bracelet for a long time now, but I can only stare at it every time I pass by the jewelry store."
  • She then proceeded to wear it on her slender wrist.
  • "Alexis and Rickon's gifts are quite nice. They are expensive indeed." Charlotte nodded.
  • Even though she thought her son-in-law was useless, depended on his family's riches and did not know how to make her happy, his only redeeming point was that he was rich. He can still spend this much although he has a low standing in his family. Much better than Stuart, I would say.
  • He's not someone this poor fool can hope to match up to.
  • "Hey, trash. I don't think you can afford this bracelet even if you work yourself to the bone for a year, am I right?" Rickon mocked Sebastian again.
  • With patience, Sebastian only smiled at this.
  • Thinking that he only had to hold it in for one more day, he knew he would get to show off his wealth sooner or later. I don't need to argue with small-fries like you.
  • "Since we're taking our gifts out, Mom, Dad, Mandy, how about you guys show yours too," Alexis suggested.
  • "Alexis, you're all so rich. I can't compare with you guys. I only spent five thousand and bought a Burberry scarf." Mandy took out a beautiful gift box and continued, "To buy this, I did not dare to go shopping for a month."
  • "Thank you very much." Sandy smiled.
  • "Let me have a look!" Charlotte, who loved branded stuff, opened the gift box immediately to take a peek.
  • Then, she wrapped the scarf around her neck in front of everyone. "Does it look good on me?"
  • "I'll give it to you then," Sandy said.
  • Even though it was not her birthday yet, Sandy was already basking in the joyful occasion.
  • "Dad, what did you buy for Sandy?" Mandy asked curiously.
  • "What do you think? I don't know the trend nowadays, being a middle-aged man. I only pursue value, so I bought an insurance plan for Sandy that's worth five million." Wyatt smiled.
  • "Dad! You're so biased!" Mandy shouted.
  • A hint of jealousy also appeared in Alexis' gaze as she too agreed that Wyatt was too biased. This was a solid investment, as even if their family failed to make it through the crisis this time, Sandy would still be able to get a five million payout from the insurance in the future.
  • "You sure are wise. Since you know that your family is about to go bankrupt, you bought insurance for Sandy beforehand." Rickon smiled.
  • All of a sudden, his words filled the atmosphere with awkwardness, gathering everyone's unpleasant looks.
  • "For the love of God, just shut up for once," Alexis scolded upsettingly.
  • Her husband could be a bit foolish at times. If he had half the capabilities of Wyatt, she would not have been given the cold shoulder in the Stark Family. Glancing at Sebastian, she saw that he was just sitting there quietly.
  • This made her look down on him even more. Though Rickon isn't ideal, he's still better off than he is. Ten years have passed and he's still nothing but a body filled with hatred.
  • Not to mention how he still has to rely on our family in the future.
  • "Stuart, I'm quite curious as to what you're giving Sandy. Since you'll be marrying her sooner or later, we're already family at this point. Even if you feel embarrassed by your gift, you should let us see it first, so we can prepare ourselves." Wyatt smiled.
  • "It's nothing grand. It can't be compared with your gifts," Sebastian replied.
  • "What is it?" Wyatt continued to question.
  • Seeing how everyone showed their presents and Wyatt was pressuring him, Sebastian was tempted to reveal it. For the record, he was not a showy person, but since Wyatt wanted to know his gift so badly, he thought it would be fine to reveal it beforehand.
  • "That's right. What is it?" asked Mandy.
  • "It really is nothing. It's just something very insignificant." Sebastian could not hold it in for much longer.
  • "If it's so insignificant, you should just keep it to yourself and not embarrass our family," Charlotte spoke.
  • Sebastian looked at her with a shocked expression.
  • "If it's something worthless, then you'll be better off not giving it to her. On the day of her birthday party, Sandy will have lots of friends from high places coming, so be sure to not give her anything. Otherwise, we'll be treated as laughing stocks," Charlotte continued.
  • "Okay." Sebastian lowered his head.
  • When compared to everyone's gift that was painstakingly chosen, it was a bit uncouth of him to give her twenty million as a present. Sebastian, who was this close to revealing it, chose to swallow back his words in the end.
  • He thought of giving it to her on her birthday.
  • "You don't need to give me anything." Sandy blushed and told Sebastian with a smile.
  • "I have to, as long as it doesn't embarrass you," Sebastian replied.
  • "It won't. I like whatever you give me." Sandy maintained her smile at him while shaking the watch on her wrist.
  • The bright reflection from the Patek Philippe quickly caught Alexis' eye.
  • "Mom, what are you giving Sandy?" Mandy asked.
  • "My gifts are always genuine." Charlotte looked into Sandy's eyes before taking a gift box out. "This is a Tissot that's worth more than ten thousand. It's not something that an imitation can hope to match up to."
  • "Wow, it's so pretty!" Sandy was ecstatic.
  • "Look at this, Alexis. Isn't Mom too biased? She actually gave Sandy a watch that cost over ten thousand!"
  • Ignoring her, Alexis was fixated by the Patek Philippe watch on Sandy's arm. It was a watch that was worth well over ten million and encrusted with diamonds. Possessing a lot of branded items in her house, she recognized a very similar timepiece she saw in Starlight Mall.
  • "Sandy, can I take a look at your watch?" Alexis held her breath.
  • "Sure." Sandy removed her watch.
  • "It's beautiful." Rickon was also intrigued by the watch.
  • Without speaking, Alexis felt a sense of nervousness as she took the watch carefully before laying it on the table with a piece of handkerchief underneath it.
  • Next, she took out an ultraviolet light from her bag and started to inspect the watch.
  • Being an expert in jewelry appraisal, she had brought along the equipment with her when she was choosing the gift for Sandy this afternoon. While appraising the watch, she became gradually shocked as beads of sweat started forming on her forehead.
  • "Where did you get this watch?" Alexis took a deep breath and looked up.
