Chapter 8 The Montes Group's Security Guard

  • Sebastian had only recently returned to the country, so he could not drive due to a lack of a valid driver's license. He didn't want to bother Dominic and Noah, so he called a taxi driver. Nonetheless, it provided an opportunity for Dustin to mock him.
  • Dustin took special delight in scanning Sebastian with mocking eyes because he didn't own a car. "I wonder how capable you are when I hear you speak like that, but you don't even have a car. Lousy brat. Do you think you can beat me with money and power? Stop fooling around, or I'll find someone to beat you to a pulp!"
  • "Are you going to find someone to beat me up?" Sebastian countered.
  • "Do I need someone? Look at yourself; I can take you down alone," he retorted.
  • Sebastian looked young and frail in his tracksuit, and he wasn't as strong as he seemed to be. He didn't have the same vibe as Dustin in a suit.
  • He simply nodded and said nothing in response to Dustin's threat. Dustin, on the other hand, approached him and grabbed him by the collar.
  • Sebastian, being a gentleman, decided to ignore it, but Dustin thought it was arrogant. "You brat," Dustin said, grabbing his collar. "If you're not happy with how things are going, why don't we find somewhere else and fight one on one?"
  • "I can't fight with you." Sebastian shook his head lightly.
  • "Coward!" Dustin hissed.
  • Sandy stepped out of her home and pushed Dustin away to defend Sebastian, saying, "Dustin, that's enough."
  • "Sandy Evans, what's the deal with this guy here? Why are you always helping him?" Dustin was surprised to see her.
  • "He's my fiancé," she stated coldly.
  • "Wow. A fiancé out of nowhere," he scoffed.
  • She added, "This is my place. Please leave or I'll call the cops."
  • "You're going to call the cops just for him?" he asked with a smile of disbelief.
  • "Are you leaving or not?" She insisted.
  • "Fine. You're threatening me just for your fiancé. Very well, Sandy Evans. Just wait. I'll make you regret it." Dustin hopped into his BMW 7 Series Sedan and drove away after catching a cold glimpse of Sebastian.
  • Due to his vile mood, he stepped on the gas pedal, causing the car to spew a black cloud of exhaust at the duo.
  • "He's so annoying." Sandy frowned and waved her hand to disperse the exhaust smoke.
  • "Thank you." Sebastian smiled.
  • "Don't take his words to heart. I couldn't protect you ten years ago, but now that I'm all grown up, I'll always protect you," Sandy said with a smile as she fished for her car key.
  • Sebastian was touched as he could vaguely remember her face ten years ago. Back then, Sandy was still a thin and frail little girl. Her features were pretty, and she had very bright eyes. Meanwhile, he kept a low profile since he was young and disliked bullying others based on their family background. They spent a lot of time together at the time. Whenever the annoying kids joked that they would tie the knot in the future, she would step forward and drive them away. She promised to always protect him, and she kept her word; she had been waiting for her to protect him by making him a member of the Evans Family.
  • "Let's go," Sandy said, pulling the hem of Sebastian's shirt.
  • "Where?" he inquired.
  • "Come with me to Montes Group; I'd like to see if I can strike a deal with them," she said with a grin.
  • Sandy was driving an Audi A4 with many small Mickey Mouse stickers on the dashboard. Then, he gradually learned more about her during their brief encounter. Despite her frail appearance, she had a strong heart and often behaved in a childish manner.
  • Her body scent wafted through the car, faint but pleasant. "Dustin's diamond ring isn't that bad; don't you regret turning him down?" Sebastian asked as they waited for the traffic light.
  • "I don't like diamond rings," Sandy remarked.
  • "Then, what do you like?" he inquired.
  • "I think everything is just right for me right now," she replied.
  • Sebastian was stressed that Sandy did not favor a lavish lifestyle. Her birthday was the day after tomorrow, and he had considered buying her something expensive. Now that she had said that, he was at a loss for what to give as a gift.
  • He contemplated and asked, "What about a five-carat diamond ring?"
  • "The watch you gave me is good enough." Sandy smiled while waving her fair hand.
  • It was a ten million Patek Philippe watch. The diamonds on it were so dazzling that his eyes almost went blind, but she assumed it was a cheap knockoff.
  • "If I get the deal, my mom will treat you better," she said as they approached the Montes Group entrance, holding a stack of documents and taking a deep breath because she was nervous.
  • To her, Dustin's suggestion seemed like a shabby way to get a deal with Montes Group. Given that their new president could acquire the top company in Rithfield for a staggering price of five hundred million, he was not a braggart. To work with them, one needed capability and competence. Sandy knew she could not influence the president, but she was willing to give it a shot for Sebastian.
  • "If I get the contract with them, I'll tell Mom it was because of your assistance." She winked at Sebastian.
  • "How am I going to do that?" he asked.
  • "My, oh, my. Miss Evans, the big beauty, is here to butter up to Mr. Baker," said a croaky voice behind them.
  • It was Dustin. His voice became hoarse from all the yelling at Evans Residence in the morning.
  • He approached them from behind and cast an ambiguous glance their way. "Do you think you'll be able to get past the security guards?"
  • Sandy raised an eyebrow and asked, "And what does that have to do with you?"
  • "If you can walk past them, I'll kneel down and call you 'Daddy' and 'Mommy.'" He smiled sinisterly.
  • "Leave us alone," she said as she marched toward the security.
  • The security guards were replaced with fresh faces. Every king had his entourage; when Noah took over as president, Griffin's thug-like subordinates were dismissed. The standard practice in Montes Group now exuded a proper atmosphere. The uniforms of the security guards suggested that they were morally upright.
  • "Hello, Miss. How may I assist you?" As Sandy approached, one of them politely stopped her.
  • "Hello, my name is Sandy Evans, vice president of Oceano Group, and I have a project to discuss with your president," she introduced herself.
  • "Did you make an appointment?" inquired the security guard.
  • Sandy replied with a light head shake, "No."
  • "Please make an appointment with the receptionist; we can't let you in without permission from the higher-ups," the security guard stated.
  • "How long will it take to schedule an appointment?" she inquired.
  • "About two weeks," the security guard said with a grin.
  • "That's too long." Sandy became anxious.
  • Dustin laughed heartily with his hands in his pockets, as he watched her being stopped by security. "What did I say? You won't be able to walk past them without my assistance."
  • "I'm your new president, Sebastian Baker," Sebastian revealed his identity as he approached the security guard.
