Chapter 4 Every Dog Has Its Day

  • The boy in the Evans Residence let out a cold snort as Wyatt sighed.
  • The young man was Dustin Smith, who happened to be Sandy's admirer. In addition to a luxury car and a mansion, his family had twenty million in cash, making them wealthier than the Evanses.
  • Dustin was highly indifferent toward Sebastian, who looked like a fresh graduate in an attire of cheap sportswear. This nobody actually has the guts to offer his help to cooperate with Montes Group?!
  • My father is none other than the foreman of Montes Group. So, who do you think you are?
  • "Look at yourself before you offer your minuscule help," Dustin mocked.
  • At the sight of Sebastian receiving mockery from her family, Sandy frowned slightly and felt a little sad for him.
  • Sandy was his childhood sweetheart after all. They grew up together and she had always admired and loved him like an older brother.
  • Perhaps Sebastian had been under constant mockery ever since his parents died and he was afraid of being looked down upon by the Evanses. Still, boasting was a major flaw.
  • I have to gradually break this bad habit of his.
  • While everyone was having their own thoughts at this point, they had no idea that Sebastian was even more disappointed than anyone here.
  • For the last ten years abroad, he was known as the king of international officials and underground forces. He was not only powerful, but he also had three-hundred thousand private armed forces all around the world. He had fought for many small countries and hunted for treasures over the years. Thus, it should not be a surprise that he owned a plethora of gold mines and oil fields.
  • Acquiring the Montes Group was the first step he could do to honor his parents and their legacy.
  • He wanted to assist the Evans Family out of kindness, but he did not expect them to not grasp the concept of 'every dog has its day'.
  • As such, he simply closed his eyes and pretended not to care. I'm okay, I'm at peace, I'm zen.
  • "Aunt Charlotte, this kid may not be qualified to work with the Montes Group, but my family is." Dustin lit a cigarette and smiled. "Don't worry, the purpose of my visit today is to help you gain a collaboration with Montes Group."
  • "Can you do it?" Charlotte wondered.
  • "Don't forget that my family has worked with the Montes Group for many years and we have always been the company's contractors," Dustin said with a smile.
  • It was then Sebastian opened his eyes and glanced at Dustin.
  • Back when his family was still in charge of Montes Group, he had never heard of Dustin or any Smiths. He assumed that he was hired after Griffin had snatched the company.
  • Judging by the fact of how Dustin could get along with someone like Griffin, who had just been arrested for multiple criminal charges, Sebastian believed that Dustin was unlikely to be any better than Griffin.
  • "When Uncle Griffin was here, he was always our funder while the new president, Noah, also has contacts with us; we don't know who the new boss is behind the scenes, but I can just put in a few good words to help you gain a collaboration with Montes Group." Dustin puffed on his cigarette.
  • "It will be fantastic if we can work with Montes Group!" Charlotte exclaimed, covering her chest.
  • "I'd do anything for Sandy, Aunt Charlotte," Dustin stated loudly.
  • "If you can assist us in this, I will carefully consider you as our son-in-law," Charlotte told Dustin.
  • "I don't want to get married, Mom," Sandy uttered softly while shaking her head.
  • "Silly girl! You still think about him, do you?" Charlotte became enraged and pointed her index finger to the tip of Sebastian's nose. "How many times have I said that we and the Baker Family have broken off while you and this kid are no longer in a relationship!"
  • "Do you understand me?"
  • "I can't just simply break off with someone whom I was engaged with," Sandy explained.
  • "He's poor!" Charlotte rebuked.
  • "It's just that you and Grandma agreed to break off the engagement, but Dad and I didn't," Sandy responded, biting her lower lip.
  • "Are you talking back to me?"
  • Crack! Charlotte grabbed the teacup and smashed it hard to the ground.
  • At that point, Mandy was startled whereas Wyatt's face darkened.
  • Sandy had always been a sweet and gentle young lady who had never fought with anyone since she was a child, so her parents hardly ever chastised her because of that. Now that this had happened, she pouted and her eyes reddened after Charlotte slammed the teacup in rage, looking very pitiful.
  • To that, Sebastian's heart tightened slightly.
  • "Aunt Charlotte, let's take it easy. Don't worry; I like Sandy very much, so you don't have to frighten her." Dustin smiled before extinguishing the cigarette in his hand.
  • "Ever since Sandy was sixteen, there were many wealthy families who wanted their sons to marry her, but she refused. Now that our family is doomed and everyone looks down on us, she still can't let go of her engagement with Baker!" Charlotte sighed softly.
  • "This precisely demonstrates Sandy's loyalty and excellence. No one can take her away once she settles with someone. Don't worry, I have patience and I will definitely pursue her," Dustin assured.
  • "I have confidence in you, Dustin. I'll leave the collaboration matter with you then," Charlotte said solemnly.
  • "Don't worry, Aunt Charlotte. I will definitely handle this matter," Dustin promised as he stood up.
  • The Montes Group had a new owner and the businessmen in Rithfield were well-aware that the Rithfield's business community was about to undergo a reshuffle. Hence, they would be able to thrive as long as they could collaborate with Montes Group.
  • Dustin's family had previously worked with Griffin, but with a new boss, he lacked the confidence to acquire a collaboration.
  • However, he threw the actual procedure to the back of his mind as his top priority was to pursue Sandy first.
  • As Dustin was about to leave, he tidied up his suit and exclaimed coldly at Sebastian, "Trash!"
  • Sebastian sat expressionless and silent.
  • "Darling, we need to think about this carefully. We can't just solely rely on Dustin," Wyatt expressed after some thought.
  • "If we don't, will you do it, then?" Charlotte questioned while looking at the gifts Sebastian had brought.
  • She had three daughters, the eldest of whom was Alexis—Sebastian's age—who had already married and moved away. This time, he brought five gifts for the Evanses.
  • A pink diamond necklace, a gemstone necklace, and a Patek Philippe watch worth tens of millions of dollars were among the gifts.
  • He also carried a diamond ring in his pocket and was ready to propose to Sandy at any time.
  • "What a bunch of junk you bought from the flea market. Aren't you embarrassed to give it to us? Granite bracelets, fake gemstone necklaces and counterfeit watches," Charlotte sneered as she took out the gifts.
  • "Darling, you're going too far. Stuart hasn't returned in ten years and these are his tokens of appreciation." Wyatt quickly placed the pink diamond bracelet in his hand, asking, "Stu, how much is this bracelet?"
  • "It's not expensive. Just eighty-eight." Sebastian's eyes twitched.
  • "Such sh*tty gifts." Charlotte tossed the gemstone necklace onto the coffee table.
  • "Thank you for your gift. I really like it," Sandy said as she picked up the watch and placed it on her tiny wrist.
  • Mandy thought what Sebastian purchased were counterfeits and she did not like them either, so she stuffed the gifts he had purchased for her and Alexis into the coffee table drawer.
  • "Oh, yeah. You must have been having a hard time all these years and yet to find yourself a place back here, so why don't you stay with us?"
  • "Are you insane?" Charlotte gasped.
  • "He's my future son-in-law. There's nothing wrong for him to stay with us," Wyatt responded.
  • "Thank you for your offer, Mr. Evans, but I have a place to stay." Sebastian stood up.
  • "Where are you staying?" asked Wyatt.
  • However, Sebastian only smiled without answering.
  • Charlotte had always disliked Sebastian as she believed that he was poor. As a result, she could not wait for him to leave. "Yes, Stuart is a man with responsibility now. He's going to help us connect with the Montes Group. So how could such a powerful person have no place to live?" She quickly stood up, attempting to make Sebastian leave.
  • "Wyatt, stop making things hard for him. He has a big villa and he won't appreciate our small bungalow."
  • "Mr. and Mrs. Evans, I shall take my leave first," Sebastian said as he headed outside after casting Sandy a glance.
  • The Evans were housed in a small bungalow with just a few rooms. The entire family came out to send Sebastian off, but Charlotte reluctantly followed suit before she muttered, "He has no capabilities, but he's arrogant."
  • Sebastian simply pretended he could not hear her.
  • "Are you really leaving? Let me know if you have any difficulties. It's really fine for you to stay with us," Wyatt emphasized, reluctant to watch him leave.
  • "Mr. Evans, I'll definitely give you a call if I encounter any problems," Sebastian affirmed with a smile.
  • Just as Sebastian was standing at the door talking to Wyatt, a white military jeep drove over and came to a halt at the Evans Residence entrance.
  • "General Baker, please allow me to escort you to the base."
