Chapter 53

  • Victor's car pulled up to my house, and as I stepped out, I offered him a grateful smile, thanking him for the ride. But as I entered my home, my mind was already consumed by thoughts of the day's encounters. Straightaway, I made my way to my son's room, the soft glow of the night light casting a gentle aura over his peaceful slumber. I couldn't help but caress his face tenderly, the words tumbling out of me in a whisper.
  • "I saw your dad today," I murmured, the weight of uncertainty heavy in my voice. "He said he misses me, but I don't know if he's telling the truth. And the worst part is, I'll be seeing him every day. I'm not over your dad. I still love him so much."
  • Planting a gentle kiss on his forehead, I left him to his dreams and retreated to the bathroom to freshen up. The cool water washed away the day's grime, but it couldn't cleanse the turmoil churning within me. As I dressed, slipping into a form-fitting gown that accentuated my curves, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that clung to me like a shadow.
