Chapter 2

  • He Nian stood rooted on her spot. Pei Shaoyu had deliberately fallen behind his father. When he saw her, he immediately recognized her. This shallow and arrogant woman was the one he slept with that night. The woman whom he thought of every so often.
  • “You...” Before Pei Shaoyu was able to say anything, He Nian held onto his hand abruptly and pulled him outside.
  • Zhang Wan’s sarcasm could be heard from behind them, “He Nian, what are you doing? Didn’t you say you were getting married? Don’t you feel embarrassed trying to seduce the Pei family’s young master?”
  • Her voice was raucous.
  • This attracted everyone’s attention, yet they only saw He Nian pulling Pei Shaoyu out of the office.
  • He Nian didn’t know who Pei Shaoyu was, nor did she hear what Zhang Wan was yelling about. She didn’t care. All she thought about was why this person came looking for trouble. When they reached the stairwell, she asked him anxiously, “What are you doing here? Don’t tell me that a grown man like you came here to ask me to take responsibility for my actions?”
  • Pei Shaoyu stared at He Nian and raised his eyebrows slightly. His eyes emitted earthy hues, a million different shades of brown which almost entrapped her. The only thing that stopped her from being pulled into his eyes was when she thought about her chaotic life. Her tone became impatient again, “I’m telling you... This is all just a big misunderstanding. What’s done is done, so please don’t come looking for me again. I don’t like little brats like you, do you understand?” As she finished talking, He Nian turned around and left.
  • Pei Shaoyu chuckled, Little brat?
  • Since when have I, Pei Shaoyu, become a little brat?
  • He grabbed He Nian’s arm, preventing her from leaving. With a frown, he asked, “What did you say? Did you call me a little brat?”
  • He Nian studied his facial expression curiously and quickly understood what he meant. “Is that not true? How old are you? Frankly speaking, if I had known you were four years younger than me that night, I wouldn’t have let anything happen between us.”
  • A vein popped up on Pei Shaoyu’s forehead. Just what on earth did she mean?
  • Was she not satisfied with my performance?
  • He clearly remembered how coquettish and amorous this woman was that night.
  • “Please let go of me since I have to get back to work. You can leave now,” He Nian’s impatience was on full display. After spending the night together, she found his ID card and realized he was four years younger than her. Whenever she thought of this, she got extremely frustrated.
  • He Nian broke out of Pei Shaoyu’s restrain and left, leaving him to trail along behind. He followed her until she reached the door, at which she shot an annoyed glance at him. She murmured, “What are you trying to do?”
  • Pei Shaoyu lowered his head to look at He Nian, his brown eyes reflecting her figure with absolute clarity. He reached out to push the door open, then walked straight into his father’s office.
  • Without thinking twice, she tagged along, then waited outside Pei Lihua’s office door in an attempt to eavesdrop.
  • Zhang Wan spoke up again, “What are you doing? Are you trying to tell me your man was the one who entered just now?”
  • He Nian scowled at her.
  • Just as she was about to speak, Pei Lihua’s voice resonated from within his office, “Shaoyu, you might have to spare time to help me soon. He Nian is pregnant, she should be asking for maternity leave soon.”
  • Shaoyu?
  • Pei Shaoyu.
  • She remembered this name. It was the name from the ID card she picked up.
  • “He Nian, are you trying to become the Pei family’s daughter-in-law? That’s delusional! Even if the Pei Family keeps a low-profile, you should know that they’re a big family, right? Even if not much is known about this young master, that’s also...”
  • Wait.
  • He Nian was stupefied. She had stopped listening to Zhang Wan’s rambling almost as soon as she started.
  • Pei Lihua?
  • Pei Shaoyu?
  • How are they related?
  • A loud thud traversed from the tightly closed door, dazing the already confused He Nian even more. She watched as Pei Shaoyu emerged from inside the office when his beautiful brown eyes meeting hers. For a brief moment, He Nian had the impression of being held in his arms. Just then, Pei Shaoyu broke the silence, “Where is your desk?”
  • His voice was deep, a little different from what she had heard that night, but still enough to make her legs feel weak...
  • He Nian instinctively pointed at her own desk. Pei Shaoyu walked to where her desk was and started searching. When He Nian finally snapped out of her trance, she realized what he was scouring for. The medical report from the gynecology department of Ren He Hospital caught Pei Shaoyu’s attention as he opened her drawer.
  • “Don’t look!” He Nian tried to snatch the report frantically, but Pei Shaoyu just raised it above his head, thwarting her advances.
  • The entire office halted as if someone had just pushed the pause button on a remote. They were astonished by what the two of them were doing.
  • The atmosphere felt weird.
  • Pei Lihua hurried out of his office when he noticed that the chattering in the typically noisy workplace died down. He saw his son staring intently at the medical report he was holding high above his head.
  • In reality, his son was only focused on two lines.
  • The first one was...Name: He Nian.
  • And following that...Diagnosis Result: Two months pregnant.
  • He Nian wanted to grab the report, but the little brat, although younger than her, was not in any sense, short. In fact, he was actually quite tall. Even if she jumped, it would still be difficult for her to reach the report.
  • She continued growling at him, “Give that back! Don’t look at my stuff!”
