• Things had been unsettlingly quiet. In other circumstances, I might have revelled in the calmness, but my brothers and I were seasoned enough to know better. Under Naidy's guidance, we had learned that the silence would be followed by a cloud of chaos. She whispered with her bones. A conversation only she could hear. The message she received was clear: our territory was now being invaded by those who moved around in the shadows. If allowed, our enemy will swallow everything up, leaving behind nothing but ashes and bones.
