Chapter 14 Daddy Is Here

  • When night fell, Elena put the children to sleep before gently shutting the door and returning to her room.
  • She would never have been able to complete her studies if it were not for Isaac helping her watch the little ones.
  • While Hendrix was a fairly good boy, he could never say no to his little sister, and so the two of them always ended up causing trouble together.
  • Such ordeals happening became a norm for her ever since the children developed the ability to speak and walk, but it was also thanks to them that her days were filled with warmth.
  • At present, Sevyn glanced at the door across her from underneath her blanket. Then, she jumped out of her bed and scurried over to her brother's.
  • Hendrix had already fallen asleep when a tiny head popped out next to him in bed. “Sevyn, you're already seven years old. We can't share a bed anymore,” he murmured helplessly.
  • Despite saying that, he shifted his body and made room for the little girl.
  • Sevyn sprawled herself out on the pillow and blinked at him. “Hex, I heard something Mommy said while she was on the phone with Mr. Myers. I think they were talking about Daddy.”
  • “And?”
  • “Daddy's here in this country too! Mommy said she saw him at the hospital.”
  • “So?”
  • “Mommy's never had a boyfriend, so I'm sure that means she's been waiting for Daddy all this while! Do you think they'd get back together if Daddy finds out about us?”
  • Hendrix furrowed his brows. “Stay out of these adult affairs, Sevyn. No smart person ever wants to go back to their past.”
  • Yet, the little girl seemed to pay no heed. “I think Daddy must be really handsome. I want to know what kind of person he is. I'm going to find him.”
  • The crease between Hendrix's brows deepened as he saw how excited his sister looked.
  • He had a feeling she was about to cause more trouble soon.
  • Taking time off work was an extremely rare occurrence for Elena, and she spent most of her time tidying up the condominium—something she hadn't gotten around to doing before.
  • She didn't have to worry about the children, given how much better they were at ordering food than she was. Sevyn was such a sweet talker that just from heading downstairs to buy ice cream, she would come back with a bunch of other snacks too.
  • The only downside was that Elena might lose both of them completely the moment she blinked.
  • I doubt I can watch over two little mischiefs who managed to buy plane tickets on their own. Heck, if they ever get kidnapped, they'd probably end up selling their kidnappers instead.
  • After resting for a few days, the woman bought a few gifts and headed to the Truman residence.
  • Having not returned for seven years, standing at the gate to the mansion made her feel slightly anxious, and she remained unmoving as though her feet had been glued in place.
  • Creak. The gate suddenly opened, and the housekeeper, Ruby, could be seen dragging a bag of trash out with her. Then, her eyes widened in shock as she saw Elena.
  • “Ms. Elena? Is it really you?”
  • Elena's eyes reddened the instant Ruby held onto her. “Hi, Ruby.”
  • “You were gone for so long. It's been seven years! Seriously, what was with your temper? You left the house after being given a short lecture and ended up leaving for seven whole years...”
  • Tears welled up in the older woman's eyes as she spoke. “Jeez, look at me. Why am I still bringing up the past? All that matters is you're back now. Come on in.”
  • Elena followed Ruby across the courtyard, noticing that almost everything looked the same as seven years ago since the plants were trimmed neatly. The only difference about the area was the swing, which looked like it hadn't been touched for a long time.
  • A slender figure appeared by the front door before they could enter.
  • “Oh? I was wondering who had dropped by. So it looks like the great Ms. Elena has now made her grand comeback, huh?”
  • Elena turned in the direction of the voice. “Cindy?”
