Chapter 11 Is This Dr. Truman

  • “Take a good look at the video. Is this Dr. Truman?” Jasmine showed the video to everyone.
  • She then glanced at the silent Elena and snorted in disdain.
  • Her cheating assh*le of a husband couldn't keep his d*ck in his pants, so she had been wanting to get a divorce so she could be with her lover. However, she couldn't get any evidence to prove that he cheated on her. That morning, an anonymous person sent her the video, to her utter delight.
  • I won't have to worry about not getting alimony if I cause a fuss!
  • With that thought in mind, Jasmine bellowed, “Come, you're welcome to take photos of the b*tch. Post it online, so everyone can find out that the attending physician of General Hospital, Elena Truman, is a homewrecker!”
  • The onlookers pulled out their phones to do as told.
  • Elena's cheek was numb with pain. She gazed at a furious Jasmine and the passive bystanders silently. Despite wanting to explain, she had no idea what to say.
  • “Raphael, the doctor in the video looks like Elena.” Vanessa applied the slightest pressure on his hand.
  • Raphael watched the entire incident without a word. Something flickered in his deep, dark gaze, but no one noticed it.
  • As more people gathered, they started jostling each other.
  • Raphael's gaze swept across the crowd beside him. He reached out to hold Vanessa's wrist and pulled her back. “Be careful.”
  • “Oh!” Vanessa let out a squeal. She accidentally bumped into Jasmine when she spun around.
  • Plop!
  • Jasmine stumbled, and her phone dropped into the cleaner's pail. The sudden splash caused the onlookers to shriek in shock.
  • At once, Jasmine rescued her phone hastily as everyone stared at her.
  • Raphael took Vanessa's hand and asked in a low voice, “Are you all right?”
  • The sight of his concern felt so unbearable to Elena that she found herself getting short of breath.
  • “I'm fine,” came Vanessa's reply as she lowered her head to hide the smugness in her eyes.
  • To everyone else around them, she looked thoughtful and attentive.
  • “Good.” Raphael then turned around to look at Elena.
  • They shared a look across the crowd. Elena had nowhere to hide and looked flustered. Despite her calm act, she was utterly humiliated by the commotion Jasmine had caused.
  • She was distracted when a pair of long legs came to a stop before her.
  • Raphael glanced at her dejected expression and parted his lips to say, “Ms. Truman, you've surprised me more than once these few days.”
  • Elena's throat went dry. Before she could say anything, Raphael lowered his voice and added, “I'll ask someone to deliver the wedding invitation to you. I shall see you there.”
  • With that said, he strode away swiftly. Vanessa gaped for two seconds before she quickly went after him.
  • Elena's neck was numb, and she couldn't even bring herself to look at Raphael. She stared at the wet phone blankly as everyone whispered furiously around her.
  • Soon, a few security guards arrived and pulled Jasmine away before she could grab Elena's hair. The hospital director arrived to mediate the conflict, and the ruckus came to an end.
  • There was a car waiting outside the hospital.
  • After getting into the car, Raphael looked out the window and said nothing.
  • Vanessa stole glances at him and hesitated before saying, “Raphael, I think the video was a misunderstanding. Elena isn't someone who would seduce someone else's husband. We've known each other for years, so I know her well.”
  • Raphael heard her words loud and clear.
  • He recalled how rattled Elena was that day at the entrance of the ward and responded calmly, “Is that so?”
  • “Yeah. But...” Vanessa studied his reaction and continued carefully, “Elena is a little strange. Remember how she insisted on going overseas back then? Even when her father, Mr. David Truman, got so upset and had to be admitted to the hospital, she refused to change her mind. I wonder why she did that.”
  • Raphael was still anguished that Elena had left the country years ago. Vanessa knew that well.
  • However, Raphael did not show any signs of being upset now.
  • Refusing to give up, she added, “Our mutual friends said that Elena left with a man—”
  • Raphael's eyes darkened with displeasure. He snapped, “When did you learn to spread baseless rumors like the gossipmongers?”
  • Vanessa's heart sank. She forced a smile and replied, “I heard that somewhere, but I'm sure Elena didn't do that. Besides, back then, didn't you both...”
  • Something occurred to her as her face paled instantly. She couldn't even bring herself to finish her sentence.
