Chapter 114 Mountain Gap

  • It was a disturbing story for a lot of reasons, but one stuck out in my mind. Why did Wayne have injectable methamphetamine in his house? That was just very odd. Was he expecting an attack using tranquilizers? That had to be it---I hoped. There couldn't possibly be a medical reason for it---or a legal reason, either. He had syringes, too. I had never heard of a Vin-Ta who was a drug addict, but I grew up in Alpha George's pack. He didn't approve of alcohol. I decided I would ask Dave as soon as I could ask him privately.
  • I looked at Keith and Jerry. They hadn't seemed surprised that their father injected them with an illegal drug. It suddenly occurred to me that I knew nothing about Wayne, Lisa, or Jerry and almost nothing about Keith. After being almost kidnapped, it was not a reassuring thought.
  • Keith yawned and then Jerry did. I looked around the van. It was family, except for two men I'd never seen before. One was asleep. The other nodded to me when I looked at him.
