Chapter 6

  • At school the next day, the teacher was in the class teaching. Betty put her head on the table, sleeping while the teacher was teaching. Billy noticed Betty sleeping, so he drew near to her and whispered into her ear,
  • "Why are you sleeping in class?" Billy was looking at the teacher while speaking into Betty's ear. He was cautious so the teacher would not notice him, but because Billy suddenly whispered into Betty's ear, she jolted immediately, drawing the teacher's attention.
  • "You two, stand up," the teacher said to them. Billy and Betty quickly stood up.
  • "One is sleeping in my class, and the other is disturbing my class. Go and run around the field," the teacher said and continued with the class.
  • Betty looked angrily at Billy because she would not have been caught by the teacher if Billy had not exposed her. Even though Betty was angry, Billy looked happy because the two would be able to spend time together. When they got to the field, Betty started jogging, still angry with Billy. Billy also started jogging beside her.
  • "Why were you sleeping in class? You are the cause of this," Billy blamed Betty.
  • Betty stopped abruptly upon hearing what Billy said and became even angrier. She stared at him as if she would devour him but did not say anything.
  • "Why are you looking at me like that?" Billy asked, looking confused.
  • "Am I the cause, or are you?" Betty roared at him angrily. She hissed and continued jogging.
  • Billy looked at her, confused, because he did not know how he had caused her to sleep in class.
  • "Why did I cause you to sleep in class?" Billy asked as he jogged beside her.
  • Betty sighed in frustration.
  • "This person seems to be a thorn in my flesh," she thought and sighed again.
  • "Didn't you want me to help you with your part of the project? So, I stayed up last night to finish it," she shouted at Billy and walked away angrily to the other side of the field to continue her punishment.
  • Billy seemed to have heard an unbelievably thing as he stood there, smiling foolishly to himself. Thinking that Betty had actually helped him with his part of the project was surprising.
  • He was going to ask for more time from the group leader to do his part since Betty has refused him yesterday but she actually helps him.
  • "You really helped me? I thought you wouldn't," Billy said, trying to confirm if what he had just heard was true.
  • He would never have thought Betty would do what he had asked last night, but knowing that she had helped him, Billy became even happier as if he had just won a million-dollar contract. He smiled broadly, and his dimples were so evident that he looked really handsome.
  • Betty, who had been jogging without looking back, noticed that Billy had not responded to what she had said. She stopped to look back at him and saw him smiling. Seeing his dimples, Betty blinked her eyes because Billy looked really handsome.
  • Before, Betty had thought she had not noticed Billy’s handsomeness, but seeing him now, she thought he was really handsome.
  • She could not help but stare at this dashing guy. She blinked without realizing it, then suddenly felt butterflies in her stomach. She quickly swallowed her saliva and immediately looked down as if she had been caught doing something bad. She composed herself, then quickly continued jogging faster.
  • Billy, who did not notice the effect of his smile on someone, smiled even more because he was happy that Betty had helped him.
  • "That means we have become friends, right?" Billy asked as he jogged toward Betty.
  • Betty did not answer his question.
  • "Since you transferred to this school, I just keep getting into one trouble or another," Betty said without looking at Billy’s face.
  • Billy looked at her with interest and suddenly came in front of her. He kept jogging while facing her.
  • "Should I reward you?" he asked, searching her eyes for an answer.
  • Betty ignored him because she did not want to look at his face, so she continued jogging. But Billy suddenly stopped, which made Betty bump into him.
  • "What are you doing?" Betty said, scared as she suddenly bumped into Billy.
  • "I'm sorry," Billy said, thinking she was angry.
  • "Should I hug you as a reward?" Billy said jokingly. He stretched his arms out to hug her, deliberately teasing her.
  • Betty immediately moved back to avoid his hug, thinking he would actually hug her. Seeing that he could tease her more, Billy started moving toward her as if he would really hug her.
  • Looking at Billy's serious face, Betty kept moving backward so Billy wouldn’t hug her, and Billy continued teasing her. When Betty realized that Billy wouldn’t stop, she suddenly started running, and Billy ran after her. They began to play tag, laughing.
  • They continued running for some time until Betty got tired. She used her hands to stop Billy.
  • "Please stop," she said breathlessly as she laughed.
  • Billy was also laughing because of the fun in playing tag. He stopped chasing her, and the two of them sat on the field, then lay down on their backs, continuing to laugh.
  • When the laughter died down, Billy rolled onto his side and faced Betty, looking at her smiling face closely.
  • "Her face looks beautiful when she smiles," Billy thought. He felt happy and comfortable being close to her, so he smiled.
  • Betty, who was facing up, did not realize that Billy was looking at her face closely.
  • "I have never seen you smile before, but now you’re laughing," Billy said with a serious face.
  • Betty’s face immediately changed as her expression turned serious. She kept quiet for some time, then said, still facing the sky,
  • "I do laugh, but I just decided not to laugh anymore." She smirked.
  • "But smiling and laughing suit you," Billy said sincerely.
  • "My family is facing some problems. That’s why I decided not to laugh or smile," Betty said frankly and sighed.
  • Billy did not talk for some time but later said,
  • "All families face one problem or another, so you shouldn’t lose your smile."
  • Talking about family, he paused and then continued.
  • "Do you want to tell me about it?" Billy asked.
  • Betty looked at him as if confirming whether Billy was trustworthy.
  • "No, I don’t want to," she said instantly. She stood up and walked back to class as if they had been fighting before.
  • Billy was surprised to see Betty change suddenly, but he did not go after her. He remained on the field, thinking about what Betty had said, and felt that the two of them were somehow alike.
  • “I think I can see me in her” he smiles to himself, his dimple smiling along.
