Chapter 5

  • After school, Billy went to the company. He changed into his office clothes and started looking through a file. The door to his office was suddenly pushed open, and his aunt, Mari, burst in. Ray tried to prevent her from coming in, but she forced her way in.
  • Billy looked up with anger in his eyes and saw his aunt.
  • "Ray, you go back to work," Billy said to Ray, who was trying to prevent Mari.
  • "Billy Dalton, am I not welcome in your office?" Mari asked Billy, looking offended. Billy decided not to answer.
  • "This is still Father's company. Why will your assistant treat me like that?" Mari, Billy's aunt, said again, but Billy did not reply to her. He sighed, looking at his aunt's face as if he didn’t hear what she was saying.
  • "Why are you in my office?" Billy asked with a serious face.
  • Mari quickly smiled and said,
  • "Since you became the CEO, I haven't been able to congratulate you officially, so I came to congratulate my nephew," she said, holding a basket full of tangerines.
  • Billy stared at her with amazement. He used his hand to support his cheek to hear what his aunt wanted to say because Billy knew that his aunt did not actually come to congratulate him.
  • Then Mari continued,
  • "I know you love tangerines, so I brought them for you to congratulate you." She put the basket containing the tangerines on the other table in the office and sat down.
  • "So, you came to congratulate me officially?" Billy asked her suspiciously.
  • "Yes, but you know your cousin Arti, she wants to join the company, so Aunt wants you to make her your secretary," Mari said, looking all proud.
  • Billy now seemed to understand why his aunt came looking for him—it was because she wanted her daughter, Billy's cousin, to be his secretary.
  • Billy sighed and looked at his aunt.
  • "This is indeed Grandfather's company. Arti can work here," Billy said.
  • Mari looked happy hearing what Billy said.
  • "But I will only give her a position, not as my secretary," Billy told his aunt.
  • "You should make her your secretary. That is the position that fits Arti, the CEO’s secretary" Mari said while fixing her eyes on Billy.
  • "Aunt, Arti just finished University, and she will need to learn before she can get to the position of being a secretary. Moreover, she did not study business or anything related to this work in University," Billy replied to Mari, looking angry.
  • Hearing that, Mari stood up, looking upset.
  • "Dalton Billy, do you remember that you are also still in high school and don’t even study business?" his aunt said.
  • Billy was pissed off by what his aunt said, so he responded,
  • "Aunt, if Arti doesn’t want to start from a small position, then she cannot work here." Billy finalized his words and continued looking through the file.
  • Mari looked at Billy furiously and retorted,
  • "Billy, because Grandfather made you the CEO, you think you now have the power to do things, right?" Mari said, breathing threateningly.
  • Billy knew that Mari would cause a scene, so he immediately picked up the telephone and asked Ray to come in.
  • "Please escort Aunt out," Billy said to Ray as soon as he entered the office.
  • "Miss Mari, please, you should leave," Ray told Mari, but she refused to leave, saying many things to Billy. Ray had no choice but to drag her out.
  • As Ray was dragging her out, she shouted,
  • "Billy, this is Father's company, and I still have my shares here. You cannot do what you want just because you are sitting there."
  • Mari kept saying things as Ray dragged her out.
  • Billy looked frustrated hearing all his aunt was saying. He sighed and immediately called his grandfather after his aunt left.
  • "Grandfather, Aunt came here," Billy told his grandfather, but before Billy could explain, his grandfather cut him off.
  • "Don't mind her. She already came to me, and I asked her to come to you. Whatever you say is final," Billy's grandfather said and disconnected the call.
  • ---
  • That night, Billy was so tired because of his aunt's trouble. He looked so stressed as his mind wandered off, feeling lonely without his parents. Then he thought about Betty and smiled, so he picked up his phone to call her.
  • "Hello, who is this?" A girl's sweet voice immediately rang in Billy's ear like a sweet melody, making all his stress wash away.
  • Billy smiled.
  • "It's Billy. So, you don't know my number?" Billy said as if he was angry.
  • Betty kept quiet for some time before she replied,
  • "Why are you calling me at night?" She asked because she believed he should only call her during the day.
  • Billy did not know the reason why he called her, but he only felt like calling her and just tried her number. He became silent since he did not know what to say. Then he remembered something he could use as an excuse.
  • "Oh yes, I called you about tomorrow's submission from the pairs," Billy said, smiling.
  • "Why should you call me because of that?" Betty replied angrily.
  • "I want to ask you for a favor," Billy replied.
  • "What favor?" Betty did not know what favor Billy was talking about.
  • "I have not done my part for the submission tomorrow. Can you help me with it?" Billy said to her.
  • "Why should I help you?" Betty asked, feeling furious.
  • Billy kept quiet and later said,
  • "Because you are my friend and partner too," he paused and continued,
  • "And also, I really don't have time to do mine." He quickly added that so that Betty would take him seriously.
  • He was not lying; he could not do his part of the assignment because of office work. Calling Betty his friend, he meant it because he felt relaxed whenever he was with her or thinking about her.
  • Betty was surprised to hear Billy calling her his friend, so she kept quiet for some time.
  • "I cannot help you," she finally replied.
  • "Why?" Billy asked disappointedly.
  • "I have not finished my part either. Do your part, and let me do mine," she said and wanted to disconnect the call.
  • "Please, Bet," Billy quickly said in a cute voice before Betty could disconnect the call.
  • Betty's heart fluttered hearing Billy pleading with such a voice and calling her intimately, but she did not answer him and instantly disconnected the call.
  • After the call was disconnected, Billy laughed at himself for sounding that cute while begging Betty. It seemed funny to him, so he repeated what he said in an even cuter voice,
  • "Please, Bet," he smiled, seeing her as a stress relief, and then he fell asleep.
  • Billy did not know that his cute voice just now had made someone else's heart flutter. Betty didn’t know why, but she decided to help Billy with his part of the project.
  • Because of that, she stayed up late to finish both her own and Billy's work even though she don’t why she is helping him.
