• I had woken up thinking she’d be ready to talk, but she just walked by without looking in my direction. So I took the cue and kept my distance. I was going to surprise her with a comforting lunch. I spent the night going through what I had learned about Zara while I studied her in New York.
• I wasn’t interested in her likes and dislikes for a minute, but they were things I unknowingly picked up, like how she doesn’t like her coffee black, she didn’t like to take long walks, and how she stayed up at night working for longer hours than during the day.
