• “I told you not to come with me when I go out to sea, didn’t I? You’re one stubborn kid,” Mang Danny said, shaking his head at his only grandson, Anton.
• Mang Danny had been taking care of Anton ever since his only son, Lando, died from an accidental gunshot, and Anton’s mother passed away while giving birth. Anton was still a baby back then, so Mang Danny raised him on his own. He always felt sorry for the boy who lost his parents so young, so even though Anton could be quite a handful, he often gave in to his requests—like coming with him on fishing trips.
• “But Grandpa, I want to learn how to fish. How am I supposed to learn if you don’t take me with you?” Anton pouted, clearly trying to win him over.
