Chapter 136

  • “I’m sorry for the intrusive nature of the question. The only medical school exclusive to werewolves on the east coast is the Greater Council for Supernatural Medicine. I researched them as I had an interest in paying for Jessa to go but found that while the werewolves that were admitted there did very well, I also found that they have a strict punishment policy. One that I felt is far too harsh considering how many empaths are abused.”
  • I nod my head.
  • “The guilt of her death wasn’t enough. I was placed on a four week probation where I was not allowed to interact with the patients until the case had been reviewed by the elders in charge of the hospital. We weren’t aware at the time of my enrollment the full extent of their rules and they reserve the right to discontinue your education if someone dies no matter how sick they are. The morning after her death I was called to the dean’s office, informed of my probation and what the expectations were during that time. At the end of the meeting I went to leave and she told me that we weren’t done. She claimed that the council mandates physical punishment for any actions that result in the death of the patient. I tried to argue my case again but it didn’t matter that the master I was apprenticed to gave me information that contradicted what I wanted to do. Kelly was my patient. I should have run the tests I felt she needed. I ultimately submitted to the punishment even though I had never received such a thing from my parents or Alpha Cannon.”
