Chapter 5

  • “Free the lady, Seth…I want to meet her.” Nana said as I approached her.
  • “I am Candice Owen. Nice to meet you…” I introduced as she hugged me instead.
  • “You can call me Nana too.” She said with a soft smile.
  • “Nice to meet you Nana.”
  • Did she know her son was a killer and a kidnapper?
  • “I wonder where a beautiful lady like you met my grandson. Where did you both meet?” She asked me.
  • “Erm…we met at–“
  • “Nana, we have more important things to discuss.” Seth interrupted as he noticed my confusion.
  • “Oh. Matteo, you didn’t tell him.” Nana said.
  • “Tell me what?” Seth asked.
  • “We have to introduce her to the others and she has to be accepted first before–“ Matteo began as Seth groaned in annoyance.
  • “Do you know how long that will take?” He asked Nana.
  • “It wouldn’t take so long…you both look smitten with each other.” Nana said as I scoffed in amusement.
  • “That doesn’t guarantee anything, Nana.” He stated as he squinted his eyes at me in annoyance.
  • “Let’s eat first.” Anna stated as she walked towards a hallway.
  • “But–“
  • “We’ve been waiting for you.” She added.
  • “We?”I asked in curiosity as a tall man stood and approached us. He had similar eye shape and hair color with Seth.
  • “Hello nephew.” He stated.
  • “Uncle Stan.” Seth said, his expression darkening.
  • “Heard you got married suddenly.” He commented as he looked at me with disdain.
  • “Yes. It was time.”
  • “Not your regular type, I see.” He remarked as I felt irritated.
  • “Don’t be dis–“
  • “I’m Candice Owen, Seth has told me all about you.” I cut off as I walked towards his uncle boldly.
  • I knew men like this, very annoying.
  • Not surprised since Seth himself is annoying.
  • “Good things I hope.” He said with a smirk as he shook my hand.
  • “I can see why you married her.” He remarked again as Nana sat down.
  • “Let’s eat.” She stated.
  • “You didn’t have to do that.” Seth whispered to me as he pulled my hair out for me to sit.
  • “Well, I want to live and you didn’t give me much of a choice.” I snarked as I sat down.
  • “Shouldn’t you start answering the Rollins family name?” His uncle asked after the appetizer was cleared. I was still surprised at the amount of food being served.
  • “She will.” Seth responded.
  • “But you are already married.” Nana said with a frown.
  • “Yes, we are.” Seth answered.
  • “Nana, please tell me you don’t believe this.” His uncle, Stan said with a scowl.
  • “Don’t mock me uncle.” Seth stated.
  • “You mock this family name…we all know why you are doing this.”
  • “Pray tell.” Nana said as she turned to face Stan.
  • “You always support him Nana. I know he is the son of your favorite child but you don’t have to rub it in my face.” Stan commented bitterly.
  • “I have no favorites. Cleo was a great daughter. God bless her soul.” Nana began.
  • Was?
  • Seth’s mom was dead.
  • “He is doing this for the trust fund! He knows the conditions, that’s why he hurriedly got married to get the deeds.” Stan explained in anger.
  • “Everything is still intact and in my care. Do not insult me, it’s time for our meal.” Nana shut him up as I grinned.
  • I already despised the uncle.
  • “I will not sit here and watch him mock my efforts. He plans to take the company from me, take all I have built.” Stan continued.
  • “You have built?” Seth asked as I suddenly noticed his fist tightly squeezed on his leg.
  • “What exactly did you build?” He asked Stan.
  • “My daughter sacrificed blood and sweat to strengthen our family in the business world and you stand there and take her glory.” Nana added as Stan frowned.
  • “What if he wants his trust fund, and so what?” Nana continued in annoyance.
  • “Then you’re jeopardizing all Cleo built. We both know he can’t handle it.” Stan replied calmly.
  • “You know nothing. Sit down.” Nana commanded as he obeyed.
  • “Matteo. I trust you, is this a ruse?” She asked him as her hazel eyes gleamed with worry.
  • “No, it’s not.” He lied.
  • Evil jerk.
  • “Candice…Candice Owen isn’t it?” She asked me as my attention turned to her.
  • “Yes ma’am.”
  • “Do you love my grand son?” She asked as I frowned.
  • “Seth?”
  • “Yes, do I have another?” She asked with a light chuckle.
  • “Yes, I love him.” I lied.
  • I was turning into an evil jerk.
  • “And I love her Nana.” Seth added as he held my hand to solidify our performance.
  • I felt repulsed at the blatant lies we were telling, but I had no choice.
  • “I hope you aren’t lying to me Seth Rollins.” Nana remarked as Seth shook his head.
  • “I am not.”
  • “You can have access to the funds left for you by your mother…after the wedding ceremony.” She told him.
  • “Mother…” Stan began as I cut him off.
  • “Ceremony?”
  • “We have to announce your marriage to the others and it must be in a grand style. After all we are the Rollins family.” Nana said with a grin on her face.
  • “Do you have a problem with that Candice?” She asked me as I smiled.
  • “That’ll be delightful.” I answered.
  • “And the deeds?” Seth asked.
  • “Mother, don’t do it.” Stan remarked in frustration.
  • “All deeds and documents for the house and company will be given to you when I deem you ready and responsible.” Nana said after a brief pause.
  • “Nana…I am ready, and I’ve not proved otherwise.” Seth stated.
  • “I am aware, but your uncle isn’t the only one with concerns.” She said as he frowned while his hands squeezed mine.
  • “What else do I have to do, to prove myself worthy of my birthright?” He asked in annoyance. My hand was taking the brunt of his anger.
  • “Are you willing to do anything?” Nana asked him as she calmly placed her cutlery at the side of her plate.
  • “Mother!” Stan exclaimed.
  • “Seth…don’t.” I said softly as the pain from my hand being squeezed intensified.
  • “Yes, anything.” He answered as his grip loosened.
  • “You will give me a great grand child.” Nana stated as the whole room fell quiet.
  • “Wait, what?!” I exclaimed in disbelief and confusion as I looked at the worried expression on Seth’s face.
  • He better say no to this.
  • “It’s going to be okay, Candice.” Seth said softly as his expression relaxed.
  • I probably misheard.
  • There’s no way he thinks I’ll birth his child as a performance.
  • “You, my dear, will have to get pregnant for him.” Nana stated as I looked at Seth my eyes widened in shock at her demand.
