Chapter 14
- The car ride to the Rollins Empire was steeped in silence. I kept my gaze fixed on the window as I watched other cars zoom by, my fingers twitching anxiously on my lap. I was in a sparkling nude gown that hugged my curves and had a thigh slit. The heels were uncomfortable since I had never worn such inches, but I had to manage. My hair and makeup were done by a professional and I was sure I looked breathtakingly beautiful, yet somehow I felt paranoid. I refused to look at Seth as he sat beside me.. His reflection in the window was enough—his cold, chiseled jawline, his blue eyes that hardly showed emotion, and a mouth that curved only when cruelty stirred him. I hated that mouth. Hated the things it said. The things it did.
