Chapter 10

  • Scarlett's POV
  • I ran until I lost sight of him. Why does it hurt so much? I don't blame anyone for this but my dad. I couldn't let my friends see me like that. I quickly washed my face with the water in my bag and wiped it dry. Checking my face in the mirror, my eyes looked puffy. It’s in times like this that I realize the importance of having a car. I would have driven far away by now. My feet hurt like hell from running in high heels. I tossed them off my feet and held them. Luckily, I had spare slippers in my bag. I quickly changed into them and put on a fake smile. I picked my phone from the bag and checked through my contacts. I dialed Max's number, which he picked at the first ring. He wanted us to meet another time. I think now is the right time for us to meet. “Hi Max, it's me Scarlett. Can we meet now if it's fine with you”? He was silent on the phone for a while. “I will text you the venue". He spoke and hung up. I received the text message as soon as he hung up. Great we are meeting at the restaurant. I boarded a bus since it was the most convenient vehicle. I got off as soon as we reached the bus stop. I had to walk for a while before I reached the restaurant. He was already seated when I entered.
  • “Sorry for keeping you waiting". I apologized once I took my seat. “It's been a while “, he said with a smile. “Sure, it is. You wanted us to talk, so here I am". “You look stunning as always. Your husband is indeed lucky ". “Urgh I don't know about that". “You often visit this restaurant?". I asked, a bit curious. “It's quite close to my office ". He answered plainly. “You work around here and yet you can go that far to the cafeteria for coffee. That's interesting". I said with a giggle. “Well, I was coming because of a certain someone. What do you want to eat? Tell me so I can place the order". He said, quickly changing the topic. “Salad and steak will do with orange juice". I spoke a bit shy. “I will be right back ". He left for the reception to place the order. Not long after, he arrived with the waiter following closely behind him. “Thank you". I muttered and began to eat. “Let's talk over the meal". I nodded in response. “You suddenly disappeared from the cafeteria for two weeks, which is so unlike you. I was a bit worried and Clara didn't want to talk about it". “As you can see, I'm fine but thanks for the concern though".
