- The screens in my study flickered softly, casting a pale illumination that struggled against the encroaching shadows of the early afternoon. Lupercus and I sat hunched over a cluttered table, surrounded by an array of monitors displaying grainy surveillance footage, snippets of intercepted messages filled with cryptic jargon, and reports marked with red flags—anything that might provide a glimmer of clue in our hunt for the rogue witches and vampires that were brazenly breaching our borders.
- Yet, as I sifted through the overwhelming data, my mind was far from the task at hand, and I wasn’t fully tuned in. Not even close. Thoughts drifted like autumn leaves back to the bedroom. I could almost feel the warmth of her presence still lingering in the air.
