Chapter 199 Disbelief
- A groan ripped from Yuren’s throat. His head lolled, and crimson dripped from the corner of his mouth. His eyes fluttered open, wide and unfocused, their usual arrogance replaced by awe, even through the pain.
- The spellbook lay on the floor where it had fallen in the scuffle, its pages fluttering as though caught in a phantom wind. The words shimmered faintly, whispering things I couldn’t hear but felt deep in my bones.
- I stared at my hand as though it belonged to someone else, this hand that had touched Sargis with tenderness, and cupped my own face in sleepless nights of doubt, was not supposed to hold this kind of power. Yet the phantom thrum of it lingered in my palm, fingertips, and the very marrow of my bones. My breath caught in my throat because I could still feel the pulse of raw, unyielding force surging through me. It was foreign, and yet it coiled in my veins as though it had always belonged there.
