Chapter 8 You Are Not Capable Of Going Against Me

  • “What did you say?” When Jennifer heard that, she could feel anger rising in her, and her expression darkened.
  • Winston frowned at once and looked up, shooting a stern glare at Emily.
  • He did not mind being humiliated by the woman, but he would not allow her to speak ill of Jennifer!
  • When Emily met Winston's gaze, a chill ran down her spine. After composing herself, she tried to continue speaking but was stopped by Winnie, who had walked up to her.
  • Staring at Jennifer with a complicated look in her eyes, Winnie said, “Jennifer, you... Why would you date him? Don't you know that he...”
  • “Of course I know!” Jennifer glanced at Winnie coldly before sitting down again. “Why would that matter? Is he not our schoolmate anymore after going to jail?”
  • Not only were Jennifer and Winston deskmates back in high school, but Winnie was also classmates with them as well.
  • “But—” Winnie was just about to reply when she was interrupted by Jennifer.
  • “Winnie, have you forgotten the reason Winston went to jail? Even a woman like me knows that we need to have a clear conscience!” Jennifer said sarcastically, the corners of her lips curled up into a faint smirk.
  • Jennifer had nothing against Winnie previously, but after knowing what happened to Winston, she was utterly disgusted with the woman.
  • Winnie froze for a moment and had an awkward expression on her face. Her lips twitched slightly, but no words came out of her mouth.
  • “Jennifer, you're a gorgeous woman and have no lack of eligible suitors. Why would you date this trash?”
  • Just then, Monica, who had left in a pathetic state earlier on, returned. She was staring at Jennifer with a cold glint in her eyes.
  • “Mrs. Zilch, you don't have to worry about that!” Jennifer replied expressionlessly before letting out a cold snort and continued, “I'm free to date whoever I like, and I did not ask for anyone's opinion!”
  • “So much for trying to be kind. Don't say I didn't warn you when you regret it next time!” Monica sneered.
  • “Has everyone finished expressing your views? Please get lost if you're done!” Winston glared at the crowd with a frown and waved a dismissive hand at them as if he was trying to get rid of a bunch of irritating flies.
  • “Winston...”
  • Winnie took a step forward and looked at Winston, biting her lips.
  • “I... I'll be getting engaged to Hugh two days later. Can you give us your blessings?”
  • “Ha! You guys just couldn't wait, huh?” Winston sneered while having a mocking expression on his face.
  • “Tell me then. How should I give you my blessings?”
  • “I want a divorce!” Winnie said after taking in a deep inhale, mustering all her courage.
  • “On account of those times we shared together, I hope you could at least do that for me!” she continued after taking a pause.
  • “Ha! Wow! Did you really just say that?” Winston replied, his eyes filled with disdain. At that moment, sorrow filled his heart at well.
  • “As a way of making up to you, we are willing to offer you two million as monetary compensation. You would be able to live a good life with that money.” Winnie spoke again.
  • “Am I supposed to thank you for that?” Winston narrowed his eyes and said while shaking his head.
  • “I've told you before; you can only make it up to me by returning me a healthy sister!”
  • After hearing that, the expressions of all the Lohans who were present changed drastically.
  • “Whether you give us your blessings or not, Winnie and I are still getting engaged two days later. I still think fondly upon our good old days and hope that you'll come and join us in our celebration!”
  • Hugh walked up to Winston and said placidly, lifting his chin slightly.
  • Taking a pause, he carried on, “So, you have to complete the divorce proceedings with Winnie within these two days! Oh right, our engagement celebration will be held on the top floor of Argos Tower.”
  • “Oh? What if I say 'no'?” Winston replied, cocking his brows.
  • After hearing that, Hugh laughed. “You have already lost everything. Do you really think you have the capabilities to go against me? It will only benefit you to do as I say. Otherwise...”
  • Even though the man did not complete his sentence, the threatening tone in his voice was apparent.
  • “Well, feel free to do anything you want! Also, I will definitely be there two days later!” Winston said with a smile.
  • He could not be bothered to stay any longer and left with Jennifer and Anna.
  • “Hi, which room are you heading to? Have you made any reservations?” a service staff member who was standing next to the stairs asked the three of them politely.
  • “I think... We're going to the VIP room!”
  • “Oh, you must be Mr. Coldrell. Please follow me!”
  • Hugh was already looking grim. When he heard the words “VIP Room,” his expression darkened even further.
  • He had made a reservation at the VIP room earlier to treat his relatives to a meal. However, the restaurant owner suddenly requested to use that room!
  • Why is Winston going to the VIP room? He can't possibly be the boss' guest, right?
  • The man could feel himself marinating in resentment at that thought.
  • “VIP room? Is that guy seriously heading to the VIP room that was supposed to be ours? Is that for real?” Monica asked furiously.
  • “Why don't I go and take a look? Maybe he's just putting up an act and spouting rubbish!” Irvine offered.
  • “What's there to see? Let's go!”
  • Hugh shot them a cold glare and turned to leave.
  • When they were walking up the stairs, Winston asked Jennifer with a puzzled expression on his face, “You know Monica too?”
  • Jennifer nodded and grumbled, “Monica and I work in the same company, and she's my superior. She's really petty and likes making things hard for people. Given how I have offended her twice today, she'll definitely be giving me hell!”
  • Winston chuckled and replied, “That's not a big deal! You can always quit your job. I'll support you!”
  • “Hmph! I'm capable enough to support myself. Are you looking down on me?”
  • “Mr. Coldrell, what happened downstairs just now?”
  • While Winston and Jennifer were bickering, Colin and Colton were seen approaching from the corridor.
  • “Oh, it was just a small matter!” Winston replied with a casual wave of his hand.
  • What happened with Hugh and the Lohan family meant nothing to him.
  • In fact, after what he had experienced during the past four years, nothing was important to him anymore.
  • There was only one thing he wanted, which was to cure his sister!
  • The second floor of the restaurant was where all the private rooms were.
  • When Winston and the others were passing by one of the rooms, the door suddenly swung open. The next moment, a few teenagers, who had cream on their faces, emerged from the room gleefully.
  • One of the girls was wearing a white dress and had a wreath on her head. She was the last person to walk out of the room and had a broad smile on her face.
  • “Cake...”
  • Anna, who had been following the others quietly, suddenly halted her steps.
  • Sensing something amiss, Winston turned around to check on his sister.
  • He saw that Anna's gaze was fixed on that group of teenagers, and there was a hint of excitement and envy in her eyes.
  • Noticing that, Winston could not help but feel bad for his sister and could also feel guilt washing all over him.
  • It was obvious that it was that girl's birthday, and her friends had gathered to celebrate her special occasion for her.
  • They should be around the same age as Anna. Anna was also supposed to be having fun with her friends just like any other teenager.
  • “Mr. Coldrell, what's the matter? Are they too noisy?” Colin, who was walking behind Winston and Anna, asked, unsure of why the siblings had stopped in their tracks.
  • Winston shook his head and suddenly asked, “Where is the best place to host parties or celebrations in the whole of Jadeborough?”
  • “Argos Tower would be the perfect venue for that!” Jennifer, who was walking ahead, answered instead.
  • Taking a pause, she continued, “Argos Tower is the tallest building in Jadeborough! It's also where the rich and powerful choose to host events. You can even have a birds-eye view of the entire Jadeborough from the top floor of the building! Securing a spot there would definitely be an honor for anyone, and everyone would certainly have an amazing experience.”
  • After saying that, Jennifer turned to Winston and asked, feeling puzzled, “Winston, why are you asking about this?”
  • Colton and Colin turned their gazes toward the man as well, looking confused.
