Chapter 17 Who Is That Big Shot

  • Winston and Colin did not leave Kenfort until it was almost evening.
  • However, he started receiving one invitation after another.
  • On their way home, Winston first received a call from Jada Ginsel, saying the high-rank officials of the hospital wanted to have a meal with him to get to know each other.
  • After that, Winston heard from Colin that Richard, too, wanted to treat him to a meal as a gesture of gratitude and apology.
  • It was not a good idea to reject either of them. Thus, Winston gathered both parties together to have a large gathering instead.
  • The location of the gathering was the Rydermans' territory, Aurous Hotel.
  • Colton, Colin, and even Richard were gathered at that place, making the guests in the building wonder what kind of big shot could attract so many other influential figures.
  • As usual, they offered toasts, complimented Winston, and other acts of courtesy.
  • It was too overwhelming for Winston, the star of the meal. Hence, he decided to slip out of the room to get some air.
  • Meanwhile, about eight young people were seated around the table in the hotel's gold-tier private room.
  • If one were to look closely into the room, they would notice Hugh and Winnie in it.
  • Looking dejected, Hugh sighed. “I wanted to have a great gathering with all of you, but some big shot took the VIP room we reserved long ago.”
  • “A person who can gather so many big shots at one place must be powerful. Besides, I heard he's a young man. Why don't we go over and be friends with him?”
  • The words came from a young, handsome man with a charming presence—Francis Hammond, their former class representative.
  • As the class representative, his achievements were the greatest. In fact, his company had already been launched.
  • “Why would an influential person like him meet us?” Winnie shook her head.
  • “You'll never know if you don't give it a shot.” Francis narrowed his eyes, and they glinted with longing.
  • “Ow!”
  • Winston, who had been walking around the lower floors in a daze, was about to return to the private room when he accidentally bumped into a waitress passing by with a dish.
  • The waitress shrieked and slipped to the ground, sending the tray and the dish flying into the air.
  • Seeing that, Winston instinctively stepped forward and caught the tray immediately. He then turned around to look at her apologetically. “I'm so sorry. Are you okay?”
  • The waitress held her ankle. Traces of pain and even anger were written on her face.
  • However, she quickly suppressed her fury as soon as she saw Winston's face.
  • She had seen him before. Most importantly, he was not someone whom she could afford to offend. After all, even people like Colin and Colton had to meet him personally.
  • “I-I'm fine!” Enduring the agonizing pain in her ankle, she struggled to get to her feet, only to fail several times.
  • “Let me take a look.” Winston placed the tray aside, grabbing the waitress' ankle without a word. It was already swollen.
  • “It must've been twisted. Don't move. I'm a doctor. I'll treat it for you,” said Winston.
  • Before she could say anything, he had already placed his palm on her injured area.
  • “Hey, you—” The waitress blushed. Just as she was about to pull back her leg, she suddenly felt a cooling sensation spreading over her wound. Half of the pain instantly vanished, making her dismiss the intention of resisting his actions.
  • Shouldn't he be cold and aloof? He's someone who can hang out with powerful people. Why is he so gentle and kind?
  • Watching Winston seriously massaging her ankle with his head lowered made her heart thump wildly.
  • After massaging it for about thirty seconds, Winston stopped and said, “Okay. You might still feel some pain, but you should be fine tomorrow morning.”
  • “Thank you so much!” The waitress tried moving her ankle. True enough, it did not hurt at all, and there was only slight pain on the skin.
  • This is really incredible! It usually takes days to recover when I accidentally twist it.
  • “Why are you thanking me? You wouldn't have been injured if it wasn't for me.” Winston reached out to help her up, holding the tray at the same time. “Why don't you get some rest? Where does this dish go? I'll send it on your behalf.”
  • “How can I—” The waitress wanted to refuse his offer but was interrupted by him, “Oh, it's nothing. Come on. Tell me.”
  • Winston's gentle voice allowed no objection.
  • “VIP room number eight hundred and eighty-eight.”
  • “Oh, I'm headed that way, too!” With that, Winston walked away with the tray without hesitation.
  • “Winston?”
  • When he arrived around the corner to the room, he was met by a couple of young people standing there with glasses of wine in their hands. Of course, it was Winnie and her friends.
  • They wanted to go into the VIP room to take a peek at the big shot. Sadly, the security was too tight, and there was no way they could enter the place.
  • Just as they were coming up with a solution, they saw Winston walking over with a dish.
  • “Winston, why are you doing this? You can easily get two million by divorcing Winnie, yet you choose to work as a waiter here.” Hugh scrutinized Winston, his lips curling into a mocking smile.
  • “Winston, why—” Winnie's expression froze as she looked at Winston.
  • After all, she was the cause for all of that.
  • “Oh? Winston? Do you remember me? We used to be classmates!” Francis glanced at Winston. The former's eyes instantly lit up when his gaze fell upon the tray in Winston's hand. “I heard you just got out. Well, keep it up and be a good person in the future, okay? Anyway, it's a great thing that you're working here. Could you help us pass a message to the big shot inside that we'd like to meet him?”
  • “Big shot?” Winston was equally surprised to see Winnie and the gang.
  • It was strange how he kept meeting people the more he wished not to.
  • After sweeping a glance over them, he noticed the others were his former classmates. In fact, they were the top students.
  • Back then, he was also one of them.
  • At that moment, however, they were staring at him as if he were a stranger.
  • After all, that was how the world worked.
  • “That's right! The person Old Mr. Ryderman and Mr. Ginsel are keeping company. If you can do this well, I'll make sure you'll get a good job!” Francis promised.
  • “Oh. Let me give it a go. It'll depend on your luck whether he wants to see you or not.” A mischievous look flashed through Winston's eyes, and he walked away.
  • In the end, Hugh and the others were left waiting in the same spot for a long time. Yet, they did not get to see the big shot. Even Winston did not come out. Finally, the group had no choice but to leave reluctantly.
  • The gathering lasted until late at night.
  • When it was almost eleven o'clock at night, Winston was escorted out of the hotel by Colin and Colton.
  • As for Richard, he had left long ago due to his health.
  • “Huh? Isn't that Winston?”
  • Coincidentally, Hugh and the others were stepping out of the hotel using the other entrance.
  • One of them, who had spotted the scene of Winston being escorted, was stunned.
  • “Indeed! That's him! He's so unreliable!” Francis frowned.
  • “Looks like he's sending Mr. Ryderman and the others off. What a pathetic life he has,” one of them exclaimed.
  • “Oh, forget it. Let's not bother about him. Anyway, make sure you arrive at Argos Tower tomorrow on time!” Hugh reminded the others after throwing Winston a look of disdain.
  • “Most definitely!”
  • Meanwhile, Winnie frowned, and confusion flashed across her eyes.
  • If he's sending them off, he should be bowing as he escorts the guests. Why am I seeing Winston in between Mr. Ryderman and Mr. Ginsel instead? Could he be the big shot?
  • Millions of questions went through Winnie's mind, leaving her even more confused.
  • However, Winston had already left, so she could only wait for the next opportunity to get her answers.
  • I have to get to the bottom of this, no matter what!
