Chapter 13 Not My Life

  • “Shut up, you b*stard. Who did you say has cancer? It serves you right that you've met such an end. Rot in hell!” Emily said agitatedly.
  • Winnie's face darkened, and she gritted her teeth in anger. “Winston, what do you want? You can come after me if you're upset. Why are you cursing my mother?”
  • “It's up to you to believe me or not. It's not my life anyway!”
  • Winston could not be bothered to convince them. I reminded them on account of our past relationship. Since they refuse to believe me, so be it!
  • “That b*stard deserves death!” Emily lashed out as she looked at Winston's leaving figure.
  • She then looked at Hector and asked, “Hector, you have not finished telling us why the chief physician can't see patients today.”
  • “That's right, Hector, I made the appointment with you a few days ago!” added Hugh.
  • “Uh... my uncle is no longer the chief physician.” Hector shook his head and sighed.
  • Winnie quickly asked, “Who is the current chief physician?”
  • Although she did not believe Winston's earlier words, she felt uncomfortable.
  • They had known each other for some time, and she knew that he was not someone who would lash out at someone just because he was upset with them.
  • Hector gritted his teeth. “The chief physician is... Winston!”
  • “What? Impossible!” Hugh shook his head in disbelief. “Winston did not have any medical skills previously. He also just got out of prison. How did he become the chief physician of the hospital?”
  • “Although I do not wish for that to be the case, it is the truth!” Hector looked depressed.
  • “All right. Even if you couldn't get the matter done after taking our money, you don't have to lie to us! It seems like I've trusted the wrong person. Winnie, let's go!” barked Hugh.
  • Hugh left angrily with Emily and Winnie in tow.
  • “*sshole!”
  • Hector looked at the figures of the four people leaving and saw Winston standing nearby.
  • He strode up angrily and yelled, “Winston! You're too much. Is your job as chief physician to chase away patients?”
  • He firmly believed that Hugh left because of what Winston said about cancer.
  • All things said and done, he simply refused to admit defeat!
  • “Do you think you're in the position to tell me what to do? You can leave now if you don't want to work here anymore!” retorted Winston while looking at Hector impatiently.
  • “Y-You...” Hector pointed at Winston and was fuming. “I want to challenge you! Let's see who has better medical skills!”
  • “Do you think you have that kind of capability?” Winston looked at him in disdain and added, “I don't think you're qualified to challenge me yet!”
  • “Haha, you don't dare take up the challenge? Why take on the position of the chief physician if this is how you will behave?”
  • Hector laughed condescendingly and raised his voice intentionally as he said, “You think you're such a big shot? You're just a dumb guy who was willing to give up everything to take the blame for your wife four years ago! I bet it doesn't feel good to have lost everything. If you have such exceptional medical skills, why don't you save your half-dead sister?”
  • “Hm?” Upon hearing those words, Winston's expression became utterly cold.
  • “I didn't want to sink to your level. However, since you insist on embarrassing yourself, I'll accept your challenge. How do you want to compete?” asked Winston.
  • “You can set the test. I'll accept anything you set!” Hector raised his head provocatively.
  • Although part of the reason why he became a director of an entire department was due to his uncle being the chief physician, he did have some skills. He was considered a rising star among his peers.
  • As such, Hector had the confidence to challenge the new chief physician publicly.
  • Everyone else in the hospital also had doubts about the new chief physician. Upon hearing that the two were going to duke it out, people gathered around immediately.
  • At that moment, a man in his eighties walked through the main entrance with the help of many people.
  • Although the man was aged and his legs were not strong, his back was straight, and he exuded an extraordinary aura.
  • Colton walked out at that moment and hurriedly went up. “Old Mr. Quinn, you're here!”
  • Winston's eyes glinted when he heard that the man was Abraham Quinn and immediately told Hector, “Why don't we treat this elderly gentleman to determine who has better skills?”
  • “A-Are you making things difficult on purpose?” responded Hector.
  • His cheeks were flushed, and he almost gritted his teeth.
  • “Who doesn't know that Old Mr. Quinn has been suffering from his condition for a long time and that it acts up every month? Only Colton and my uncle can alleviate his condition. Your request is too much!” uttered Hector.
  • “This only shows your inadequacy. Just because you can't doesn't mean that others can't do it!” Winston shook his head.
  • “What do you mean? Do you mean that you can cure Old Mr. Quinn? All right, let us witness your abilities then. If you can do what my uncle does, my uncle and I will acknowledge your skills!” Hector retorted.
  • “All right then, observe me. Ask your uncle to come and watch too!” Winston smiled and walked toward Abraham.
  • “Colton, you told me over the phone that there's a great physician who can cure my condition! Is that true? My condition acted up again recently. You don't know how much I've been suffering!” Abraham lamented as he walked with Colton's help.
  • “Old Mr. Quinn, I can't guarantee that you will make a full recovery under this physician's treatment, but he is definitely better than Longines and me,” replied Colton respectfully.
  • “Where is this great physician? Let me meet him quickly!” Abraham was delighted.
  • “Right, this is the Miracle Doctor, Dr. Coldrell!”
  • Colton pointed at Winston, who was walking toward them.
  • “Him? This young man? He's the great physician?” Abraham looked at Winston with a face full of doubt and disbelief.
  • “Colton, are you kidding me?” he asked.
  • “Old Mr. Quinn, rest assured. Why would I lie to you? Winston's medical skills surpass everyone I know,” replied Colton.
  • Winston arrived while they were talking.
  • “Old Mr. Quinn, nice to meet you. I'm Winston, and I'll be the one treating you today. Your condition of back pain and a stuffy chest must have been bothering you for years?” asked Winston.
  • “You might as well have not said it. That's public knowledge.” Hector snorted.
  • “That's right, I've suffered from this condition for decades. It was still manageable in my younger days. However, it acts up more frequently now! Young man, are you sure you can help me?” queried Abraham.
  • He looked at Winston's youthful appearance and still did not believe that the latter could help cure him.
  • “You'll only know if you try! If you use the right method, it's quite easy to treat.” Winston flashed a smile.
  • “Right, let's see you continue your pretense!” Hector sneered condescendingly.
  • “Hector, shut your mouth!” The former chief, Longines, had arrived in the main hall at some point in time.
  • Upon seeing him, Abraham's eyes lit up. “Longines was the one who helped me feel better each time. Why don't we let him treat me instead?”
  • “Old Mr. Quinn, Winston is now the chief physician of our hospital. His skills are much better than ours. Why don't you let him try? That way, we can learn from him too!” Longines said with a tinge of jealousy.
  • Colton added helplessly, “Old Mr. Quinn, trust us once. We wouldn't have asked you to make a trip down if we weren't confident!”
  • “That's right. I assure you that what awaits you is nothing short of a miracle!” Winston smiled.
  • Abraham glanced at the duo and looked even more doubtful.
  • The older and younger gentlemen felt as if they were part of a sales team.
  • Winston could not help but feel exasperated as he never had to beg for the opportunity to treat someone.
  • Upon seeing how everyone tried to persuade him, Abraham nodded after deliberating for a moment. After all, Colton was a trustworthy person.
  • “All right, I'll give it a try.”
  • “Grandpa... don't!”
  • “Father, please don't take such a risk!”
  • Upon hearing Abraham's decision, the expressions of those who arrived with him became concerned.
  • One of the youths rushed forward to stop Abraham. “Old Mr. Quinn, this is an important decision! You must be prudent!”
  • “It's all right, Charlie. You're dismissed for now!” instructed Abraham.
  • He then looked at Winston. “Young man, so what should we do now?”
