• Avalynn gazed down at Dylan's name on the screen of her phone with heart dashing hard in her chest. The last thing she wanted to do was conversing with the person who had deceived her trust and crushed her heart. In any case, she realized that not picking the call wouldn't settle the issue.
• Avalynn inhaled deeply and clicked the green button to respond. She said, "Hello, Dylan," in a reserved, frigid voice.
• Dylan said, "Avalynn," with a startled and uneasy tone. "I... I didn't think you'd pick up."
