• Mara walked up the stairs and knocked, taking a deep breath. As preposterous as Lucien’s proposal was, she had agreed to it and she was knocking on his door so early in the morning to decide and sign the contract. They both needed each other and she just hoped it wasn’t going to be anything more than that. The creak from the door startled her from her thoughts.

• “You are still in bed; it is nine o’ clock.” Mara said, glancing at the watch attached to her wrist.
