Chapter 40 40

• It was almost noon time and I could hardly wait to be done with work and go to the club for some relaxation, the plan was for Lucien to meet me there but I was going to call him and confirm his availability, I did not want to drink alone. I got up and walked to the window of my office and looked out, I had a very great view of everyone and everywhere bustling with activity. I could see a woman trying to calm a wailing toddler down and a man standing far apart from them but watching, he was no doubt the father and did not want that sort of drama. She was saying something to the child who suddenly stopped crying and then she brought out a dollar bill from her purse and handed it to him, he bounded away to the nearest candy shop, smiling like he had not just been crying some minutes ago.
• There was another couple too, holding hands and I wondered immediately why I could see myself and Elizabeth, walking side by side and hand in hand like that one day… it happened suddenly though, one minute they were holding hands and the next a woman had walked up to them and slapped the man. My interest piqued as I walked the unfolding drama, the lady who had been with the man was saying something to the other woman who walked out leaving them both, I watched the man try to explain before another slap landed on the other side of his face. Mind you, people were passing by but nobody seemed to notice the ongoing drama.
