Chapter 10

• It was night after the birthday party. Annie changed out of her work clothes into her dress. She tried hard to compose herself. She had never thought Harold would like her sincerely, and she was fully aware that everything that happened was because of the agreement.
• "Darling, thank you for your help today, I appreciate it greatly," Kate said, kissing Annie slightly on the cheek. Annie forced a smile, despite hating to accept the hurt that lurked within her. She knew it wasn't ending soon. Harold's words hurt her. She hadn't felt so much pain even when she ended things with her ex. But she held back, regret slipping into her heart. She should have taken her time to read over the documents. If only she had, she might have been saved from the heartbreak.
• "Fully paid your wages to your CashApp," Kate grinned, showing Annie the receipt on her phone. "Thank you, Kate," Annie said neutrally. Not that she had much use for the money, it was all his money. That goddamn man treated her better than anyone had ever treated her, but he had hurt her more than anyone ever had too. Perhaps she had wanted him more than she admitted. She had expected more from him, so it hurt when she realized he didn't feel the same way at all.
