Chapter 10 Drake Was Arrested

  • Mayor Vic turned slowly looking at Drake in disdain. “Oh… you? What did you just say?” Looking at him from head to toe. He spat.
  • People are already gathering around Drake, asking him if he is okay or hurt, and admiring his bravery despite the wild fire he managed to enter but unfortunately wasn't able to save the priest.
  • “You heard me man you ain't deaf.” Drake fired back anger bleeding through every syllable.
  • “Oh.. Mr. Hero, who the heck are you, And what gut do you have to question what I do or when I should arrive here?” Vic replied to him in annoyance.
  • “You screwed up Mayor or whatever your people call you. It is just a name…. You are not a good leader. Nonsense!!” Drake spat.
  • “If it wasn't for me this fire would still be burning and might burn y'all here.” Wearing a crooked smile he shrugged like the world owed him nothing.
  • “See… I said it, "You're just useless, you are not there for your people.” Drake shook his head.
  • “You are a nobody to question my duty to the civilians” Vic sneered, mocking every word.
  • “Mayor.. you are only making a mockery and fooling yourself, if you have a way of killing this fire and saving the priest you shouldn't have arrived late, it was intentional!! and you called yourself a leader!!” Drake growled, his jaw clenched fist tight ready for a fight. Vic stared at him in contempt.
  • The sheriffs were already moving towards them, civilians murmuring and watching what would happen next.
  • He added after a long pause. “And you? You showed up suddenly in Black Hollow, before this fire, and now again…. Trying to play the hero saving the priest.” He barked.
  • “You must be responsible for the priest's death, you killed him and tried to save him at the same time.” Vic added, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
  • The civilians, all shocked.. mouth wide watching Drake in contempt.
  • “What the fuck!!?” Are you okay Mayor what do you mean by..” he didn't wait to finish the word, he lunged forward with a heavy punch landing on the Mayor's gut, sending Vic flying into a nearby mud.
  • “Arrest him!!” Mayor Vic barked, voice sharp as a blade. The sheriffs didn’t hesitate.
  • “Down on your knees! Hands where we can see them now!” one of them shouted, rifle already aimed dead-center at Drake’s chest.
  • Drake’s fists clenched, breath flaring. For a split second, he was ready to fight but the crowd… the civilians. Eyes wide. Phones up. Murmurs crawling through the air like wildfire.
  • He swallowed the burn in his throat.
  • Slowly, bitterly, he dropped to his knees. Raised his hands.
  • Laid down.
  • Face pressed to the dirty concrete.
  • The sheriffs were on him like wolves boots slamming into his ribs, batons cracking across his back. Metal cuffs bit into his wrists.
  • He didn’t fight back.
  • Not because he couldn’t.
  • Because he knew chaos was what Vic wanted. And he refused to give him that.
  • The Sheriff's handled him roughly pushing him aggressively into the van.
  • Liam, Vic's only son emerging from the crowd.
  • He assisted his father up, “what happened dad? Blood in your mouth…” He asked, confused.
  • “That fool,” Vic pointed at Drake in the van.
  • “That man? What did he do to you? Your face is swollen…” Liam asked.
  • “He punched me after killing the priest” he growled, fists tightening at his sides
  • “The priest is dead?” Eyes wide, Liam was shocked. He rushed to the van and tried to beat Drake up but the sheriff blocked him as he cursed bitterly under his breath, protesting furiously.
  • Drake was just staring at him as if to break him into two.
  • “Take him away and lock him up!!” Mayor Vic shouted.
  • He stood up firmly to address the murmuring crowd. He cleared his throat and began.
  • “Alright everyone listen up. That man is a threat to us, he is a threat to ‘Black Hollow’ every single chaos and terror that befall this once peaceful town started immediately he set his foot on this soil. We can not trust him with our safety. Never!!” he paused, lips twitching into a smirk.
  • Silence filled everywhere as civilians listened to his speech.
  • He continued. “Y'all know it is a great offence to kill, most especially innocent souls…. it calls for justice.” he added through clenched teeth
  • “Yes….yes… justice.. justice.” Civilians shouted back in unison.
  • “I will rule by example, the last leader has only one thing in common…. Called ‘Law’ and I surely believe in that. Whosoever kills what should happen to such?” He asked, thrusting his hand for the civilian's response.
  • “Death by hanging” They all chorused.
  • “Good” Vic smiled wickedly.
  • “Injustice will not be allowed during my time” he added, clearly enjoying himself.
  • “What is wrong with this man, is he our ruler now?” A young lady mumbled from the crowd.
  • Another aged civilian facing a lady beside her questioned. “When was the election conducted and we voted for this chicken? To start governing us? Am I dreaming?” She smirked with a weird smile.
  • The crowd began to protest.
