Chapter 9 What Are You Doing?

  • KIMBERLY'S POV
  • The next few days, things were calm. I spend the day either in my room or in the backyard. I tried to avoid the Lycan Prince and his friends at all costs.
  • However, one morning, I woke up to my phone ringing. It was the new phone that I had been given along with a few other necessities a few days ago. And it was the first time someone was actually calling me.
  • With a deep sigh, I picked it up. But I creased my brows when I heard the voice on the other end.
  • “Agent Kane?” I asked.
  • “Yeah,” the man said. “Did you think about what I told you, Kimberly?” He asked.
  • I took a deep breath. Every time I thought about it, I felt scared.
  • “We have picked up your dad's location, and my superiors are going to arrest him tomorrow. Kimberly, if you don't help me now, I can't help you either. They are planning to hold him until they get enough evidence,” he said.
  • He sounded serious, and the thought of my dad in jail made me shiver. I didn't want him to suffer.
  • “What should I do?” I asked, my voice low. I was scared.
  • “He keeps a journal in his home office. I want you to get it for me,” he said.
  • I was silent for a while. “He will know it's missing. I'll be the only suspect,” I tried to reason with him.
  • “Just take pictures of the entries and send them to me. If I find any useful information in there, I can stop your dad's arrest for a few days,” he said.
  • I was silent again. I didn't know if what he was saying was the truth.
  • In the castle, it was like we were cut off from the rest of the world. I didn't know what was going on on the outside.
  • “It's okay if you don't want to help, Kimberly,” Agent Kane spoke up. “I know it's risky. But I just want to arrest the right people. We don't want your dad paying for something he didn't do."
  • “I'll do it,” I said. I knew that I was putting myself at risk, but I had to try.
  • “That's a good choice, Kimberly,” Agent Kane said. “Get it before the end of today. I'll be in touch.”
  • The rest of the day, I was anxious. The Lycan Prince was home. There was no way I would go to his office like that.
  • Luckily, in the evening, I saw him get in the car with his friends. I thought this was the only chance I had.
  • So after making sure that no one else was in the house, I walked upstairs to his office.
  • With each step I took, my heart beat so fast. I didn't know what lay ahead of me.
  • I was a bit surprised that the door had been left unlocked. Maybe it was because Myles was very sure that no one would be daring enough to try getting in there.
  • I pushed it open, trying to be as silent as possible. I first looked around for any cameras. But I didn't spot any.
  • Maybe they were all very hidden, or he just didn't have any.
  • With another deep breath, I walked over to his desk and pulled the drawer. There were a few things.
  • I checked through, but I didn't see anything like a journal or a diary.
  • But I found something else. There were a few pictures, all of girls around my age.
  • My heart beat a little faster when I looked at them. I wondered what he was doing with them, until I saw mine.
  • I furrowed my brows. It was a picture taken a few years back, on my eighteenth birthday.
  • I could tell that because of the clothes that I was wearing and the room we were in.
  • I felt confused as I looked at the picture. How the hell did he get that?
  • That night, my best friend, Blakely, and I had really messed up.
  • We snuck away from home and went out for this little party. Blakely had said that since I had just turned eighteen, it was time for me to have some fun.
  • Blakely was a year older than I. So she had gone to clubs a few times without me. My brother didn't let me go because he said I was still underage.
  • That night, somehow, something happened. We had too much to drink, and when we woke up the following morning, we were in the hotel rooms.
  • It was obvious that something had happened. We both were with men that night, but we didn't know who.
  • We were scared, but we decided to keep it a secret between us. We never mentioned it to anyone.
  • However, a month later, Blakely found out that she was pregnant. I was lucky I wasn't.
  • Life became so hard for her after that. Her parents, who never cared about her, threatened her to get rid of the child or get out of their house.
  • It was only after some negotiations that they agreed to let her stay. But she had to give up the child for adoption immediately after it was born.
  • Even though she gave birth and gave up the child, she was left weak. A few months later, she passed on.
  • Every time I thought about those days, I felt awful.
  • Suddenly, my phone beeped. Seeing Agent Kane's text, I sighed. He wanted to know if I had found anything useful.
  • I put the pictures back and turned to the shelf behind me. After looking through a few times, I finally found something that looked like a notebook.
  • It was a black book in the middle of the others. Even though I wasn't sure it was the one, I put it on the desk and began snapping pictures of it.
  • However, I had just taken a few of them when the door was suddenly pushed open.
  • I wasn't expecting that, so I tensed up and looked up, only to see Myles look up at me in shock.
  • “What are you doing?” He asked, his voice turning cold and scary.
