Chapter 1 Where You Belong

  • KIMBERLY
  • ”Don't send me away, Daddy,” I said, tears welling in my eyes.
  • I was hoping that he was just playing around, but his expression said otherwise.
  • Besides, he wouldn't be joking in such a situation. We were cuddling in the cave, surrounded by the enemies. If we weren't careful enough, we would be dead in a matter of minutes.
  • My name is Kimberly Stone, and my dad's name is Dancan Stone. We lived in Brighton, a small town south of the country.
  • I had had a perfect life since I was a child. I had doting parents and a spoiling big brother. They all treated me like a little princess. I had been spoiled rotten.
  • Whatever I wanted, whatever I dreamed of, whatever I thought about was always given to me without any questions.
  • So I had been happy all my life, everything was perfect, until a few days ago…
  • My dad was in the military, or at least, that is what we all believed. So he was home only once in a while during the breaks.
  • But still, we felt his presence whenever he was around. He never made us feel abandoned. My brother went abroad a year ago to study. He wasn't coming back until four years later. So, most of the time, it was just my mom and me at home.
  • That morning, I was helping her in the kitchen when I heard a commotion outside.
  • I didn't know what was happening, but she dragged me and locked me in the closet. “Don't come out, no matter what happens, no matter what you hear. Do you understand?” She asked.
  • I was scared at that time. “What's going on?« I asked.
  • But it was already late. I could hear the intruders breaking down the door. So I stayed in the closet, as quiet as I could be.
  • “Where is the Special blood child?” One of the men asked, pointing a gun at my mom's head.
  • I was so terrified, but I could see my mom shake her head at me. She was telling me to stay silent.
  • “I don't know what you are talking about,” my mom replied.
  • But the men didn't believe her. When she refused to talk the third time, one of the men shot her in the head.
  • I watched as she fell on the ground lifeless. “Search the house!” The man ordered.
  • I wanted to get out and kill those sons of bitches for what they had done, but I was too frozen to move.
  • I just sat there, tears falling from my eyes, staring at my mom's face. She had died, trying to save me.
  • Even though I didn't know what ‘special blood’ meant, I knew that they were looking for me. I didn't understand why.
  • I still didn't move even when I heard gunshots. It was obvious that someone else was in the house.
  • I only came to my senses when my dad opened the door and pulled me into his arms.
  • When I looked around, every intruder was either dead or gone. My dad had saved me just in time.
  • However, we couldn't stay. So we had been running ever since. The enemies were too many. My dad and I couldn't fight all of them.
  • But now, my dad was talking about sending me to 'my husband', something I didn't understand.
  • I was only twenty-one years old. How could he send me off to get married? Wasn't I his favourite little girl anymore?
  • The man he wanted me to marry was the Lycan Prince of the Honey Crest Pack.
  • We had all heard about him. He was a selfish prick who killed humans. He was also a pervert who put his hands on any girl he saw. How could I marry such a person?
  • “It's going to be alright,” My dad said. He seemed to have a lot going on in his head. “It's for the best. I want you to be okay!”
  • I shook my head at him. “I don't want to go, Daddy. I'm scared. Don't leave me alone. He is a werewolf. He hates humans,” I said.
  • But my dad stared at me calmly. “What do you know about werewolves?” He asked.
  • With tears still in my face, I narrowed my eyes. “They hate humans. They kill us! They are scary. Please, don't let me go there. I want to be with you,” he said.
  • But he shook his head at me. “Honey, don't believe everything you hear,” he said. “These creatures are normal, just like human beings. Myles is not what everyone says he is…”
  • “But they kill humans…” I tried to explain.
  • “I know,” he said. “But not just any humans. I mean, it's just like humans killing humans…”
  • “How?” I asked in confusion. As I grew up, I had heard so many rumors about the night creatures, especially their dangerous leaders.
  • And since my dad wanted me to marry one of them, I couldn't help but feel so scared and betrayed.
  • “Is a normal power battle between the wolves, the vampires and the humans. Each group wants to be in control. It's been there for ages. And we humans are not so innocent. The night creatures are trying to fight for their rights too…”
  • I looked at my dad in shock, my eyes opening wide. “So what happened to mom... Are you trying to say that it was normal?”
  • He quickly shook his head. “No! No, honey!” He said. “I'm going to get all those people who hurt your mom, okay? I will make them pay!”
  • “Let's do it together,” I said, hoping that he would change his mind and take me with him. But it was all useless.
  • He shook his head. “I can't, honey. Just go with him. Myles is a good person. He'll take care of you,” he said.
  • And I looked at him helplessly as he called Myles Devon. “We are ready,” he said. “Come for her.”
  • “Daddy…” I called. I didn't want to go.
  • But after making the call, some people walked into the cave. I could tell that it wasn't the people we were running from. They were different.
  • “Dancan Stone?” One of them called. “We are with the Agency. Would you come with us?”
  • I tensed up because they began dragging him away. “Daddy, who are they?” I asked, worried. “They are not bad people, honey. I'll be fine. Wait for Myles, okay? Listen to him,” he said.
  • “Daddy!” I called. But it was too late. I watched as he got dragged away. And now, I was all alone.
  • I stared at the gun I was holding. It was the only thing I had to defend myself with. I didn't even know how to use it. How could life be so terrible and unfair?
  • More tears fell from my eyes. I was lost. I didn't even know what to do anymore.
  • So this Myles Devon, the son of the ruling Alpha of all the werewolf kingdom, the playboy, was going to be my husband?
  • Suddenly, I heard footsteps. And since I was alone and terrified, I shot in the direction. I didn't want to die or be taken away.
  • “Sh*t!” Someone cursed, and it was obvious that I missed. The footsteps continued, and a man walked into the cave.
  • He was big, and he towered over me. “Little humans shouldn't play with guns. They are not toys,” he said, his voice cold and low, and took the gun away from me.
  • I tried to struggle. It was the only thing I had so far.
  • But he was strong. It didn't take him any time to take it away from me.
  • So I lifted my teary face to look at him, the scary creature that was supposed to be my husband. And I froze for a second.
  • He was not the ugly, scary man that I had pictured in my head.
  • He was tall, handsome, and well-built. His eyes were dark, but sharp. His nose was pointed, and his chin well-carved.
  • He wasn't as old as I thought. He seemed to be in his late twenties. He was a prince charming.
  • I had to admit that he was the most handsome man I had met in my life. He looked like a person who had been sculpted by an experienced woodworker.
  • He had on a black suit, fitting him perfectly. As he stood there with his hands in his pockets and a few of his men behind him, he looked like a god.
  • My heart fluttered, and my eyes remained fixed on him.
