Chapter 7 The Only Way Out
- KIMBERLY'S POV
- After Agent Kane hung up, the Queen Mother looked at me with a serious expression. “You should take the chance. It's your only way out,” she said.
- “What do you think he will do to me?” I asked after thinking for a while.
- And she scoffed. “Who? Myles? He is going to tear your neck apart and suck all the blood from your body. Then he'll feed you to his tigers,” she said.
- Goosebumps formed on my skin at the thought, but I tried to tell myself that I was overthinking.
- “I know you think it's a joke,” she said. “But I have personally seen it happen. Several girls have been here. None of them survived a month,” the Queen Mother said.
- When she put it like that, I felt terrified. “Why do they keep bringing more girls?”
- She shrugged. “That's just our nature, honey. We destroy the humans. That's how we show our power,” she said.
- I pursed my lips and looked away from her. With the way everyone spoke, there was a chance I was going to die soon.
- “But I'm tired of that,” she spoke up. “I think it's time to make a change. Humans are just like us. They have the right to live peacefully.”
- I looked at her in confusion. She was the first person I had heard speak like that. Everyone else I had come across in the castle looked down on humans.
- She smiled. “I'm supporting my son. His name is Kerry. He has been trying to protect humans,” she said.
- She seemed to think of something and looked up at me. “See, if you love it here or in the palace, I can introduce you to him. He is a nice boy, and almost your age. Forget about Myles. He doesn't care about anyone but himself.”
- I could only smile back. I didn't want to be in the castle or the palace. I wanted to go back home.
- “I'll think about it,” I said.
- “You better,” The Queen Mother said. “Work with him and save your dad. Family always matters most.”
- She talked for a while, telling me the terrible things that Myles had done. And the more she talked, the more terrified I felt.
- So when it was time to go back to the Grey house, I felt a little terrified. But I pretended to be fine and walked out.
- The side of the path was covered in trees. And with each rustling sound, I felt my blood freeze.
- Then I heard the scary low growls. It was at a corner some distance from that Grey House.
- I paused and looked around in fear. Then I saw it. Something was walking towards me from the front.
- Because it was dark, I could only see its eyes. They were red and scary, like burning charcoal. And as it neared me, I finally got to see it. It was a wolf.
- It was big. I guess it wasn't very visible because, unlike The Lycan Prince, it was black and greyish.
- And it was scary. When I looked into its eyes, all I thought was that I was going to die.
- It raised its paws ready to pounce on me. So I turned around to run. But I realized that there was another one approaching me from the back.
- I felt so frightened that I couldn't even scream.
- The first wolf jumped at me, but at the same time, something pushed me out of the way.
- Still, it scratched the side of my arm with its claws.
- I fell to the ground. I was a bit hurt, but I couldn't think about it at that time.
- When I looked up, the two wolves were coming towards me again. I began shivering in fear.
- “Get up!” Someone said next to me. Before I knew it, he pulled me up and we began to run.
- I didn't look back, but I could tell that the wolves were running after us.
- It was only when we got to the brighter side of the castle, close to the Grey house, that I realized that they were gone.
- I took deep breaths to calm myself down. I had been scared to death before.
- Then I realized that whoever had saved me was still holding my hand. I turned around to look at him. I wanted to thank him.
- But he suddenly pulled a hood over his head. I didn't get a good look at him. “Go in,” he said and turned around to leave.
- “Wait!” I tried to call. I wanted to know who he was. He could be a friend.
- But then, he vanished right in front of my eyes. I was so shocked that I took several steps back.
- I knew that werewolves and such creatures were capable of a lot of things, but I didn't know that they could teleport, too.
- I quickly came to my senses and looked around me, fearing that I would see him in another position, maybe heading towards me with his fangs ready to attack.
- But it wasn't there. Everything was quiet and calm. And that was what scared me the most. So I rushed into the house.
- I was still trembling even after I locked my door behind me. If they could teleport, then they could get into my room any time.
- I looked at my bleeding arm and sighed. I knew that I had to get out of that place as soon as I could.
- As it seemed, The Lycan Prince wasn't the only thing I was supposed to be afraid of.
- If he wasn't going to tear off my collarbone and suck the life out of me, then one of the other creatures was. Almost everyone there was an enemy.
- I tried to sleep, but the images of those scary wolves wouldn't leave my mind.
- So I pulled out a picture from my sling bag and looked at it. It was a picture of my brother.
- I realized how much I missed him, too. “Brother, are you going to abandon me, too?” I asked.
