Chapter 11

  • “I need you to deal with her,” Dominic said coolly, not sparing another glance at Annie.
  • Jasper gave a knowing nod. He ignored Annie’s eye-roll,.
  • Dominic ignores her comment on Bellamy. It didn’t matter whatever it is. It likely has to do with the maddening scent he has been struggling to ignore lately.
  • Annie frowns at how casually she was being dismissed. She pouts deeply, folding her arms across her chest before rising from the chair. With her agency putting her on forced leave to let the latest scandal die down, she has nothing else occupying her time.
  • Together, she and Jasper step out. They pause when they reach the front desk where Bellamy lay with her head resting on her folded arms, fast asleep.
  • “Your Alpha is going to fire her for slacking off.” Annie click her tongue.
  • “He won’t.” Jasper shake his head, watching Bellamy with quiet amusement. Annie stare at him.
  • “How can you be so sure?”
  • “I just am,” he mutter, already heading for the door.
  • Bellamy jerked awake at the sharp ringing of the office line. She blinks, disorient, then scramble to her feet when Dominic’s deep voice summon her in.
  • “The test won’t happen today,” he informs the moment she step inside. His face is unreadable, gaze distant.
  • “Something came up.”
  • Bellamy hesitates. She want to ask what has changed but stop herself. One more day. That is all this bought her. one more day before she likely get toss out.
  • She clench her hands at her sides, holding back the growing panic inside her chest. Still, she didn’t move to leave.
  • Dominic look up slowly, brows furrowing when he notice her lingering. His jaw clench as he catch a fresh whiff of her scent. It hit him hard, much more intense than before. Sweet, soft, distracting but there was something else woven within it.
  • Something familiar.
  • Then her voice broke the silence.
  • “I’m not pregnant,” Bellamy whisper, biting down on her lower lip.
  • Dominic’s eyes snap up, and for the first time in a long while, they lock fully onto hers.
  • His brow creases. “What?” he asked, voice low and col
  • “I took the test this morning.I’m sorry,” she adds quickly, her words trembling with nerves.
  • “I know the deal was strict. I know what this means.”
  • She brace herself for it. The dismissal, the scolding, the cold finality in his tone. She has failed. The agreement is clear and she knows how much he hates failure.
  • But Dominic didn’t speak.
  • Instead, he lean back in his chair, rubbing his temple slowly, His face was unreadable again. Controlled, and detach
  • Tension flickers in his jaws thinking about his grandfather who is coming soon expecting to see his wife. He thought he could appease him with a child instead.
  • Anxiety coiled tighter inside Bellamy as she waits.
  • “I can try again” she blurt out.
  • “We…we can do it the natural way if that's what it takes.” she stutters
  • Dominic stills.
  • For a moment, his shock is visible, a faint widening of his eyes, a sharp breath but then it vanish beneath his usual cool mask.
  • His fingers drop from his temple, and he get up.
  • “You want to have sex” he states plainly.
  • Bellamy’s heart pounded. She swallowed hard and gave a small, uncertain nod.
  • “Yes”
  • A long pause stretched between them, heavy with tension.
  • Then he move slow, deliberate. With each step closer, Bellamy’s anxiety spike but so did something else. Something warmer.
  • He stop in front of her, looming and calm. His expression remain unreadable, but something dark flicker in his eyes.
  • “Do you want to sleep with me that badly Belle?” he asks, his eyes lingering firmly on her.
  • Bellamy’s breath hitched.
  • “I… I just don’t want to lose the money” she answers truthfully.
  • His lips curled faintly.
  • Not a smile but something else. A smirk tinged with amusement and heat.
  • “You’re trembling,” he point out and only then did Bellamy realize it.
  • He lift his hand and brush a finger along her jaw, so gently it made her shivers more. He seem to be teasing her and even though his face barely shows it, he is enjoying every bit of the moment.
  • “Did you suddenly realize how foolish and careless your words are?”
  • Bellamy didn’t answer. She know she regret the abrupt words that came out of her lips.
  • Dominic lean in, so close his breath ghost against her lips but he didn’t kiss her. His wolf growls low in his chest, wild and possessive, begging to have a taste of her.
  • But Dominic keep it on a leash, just barely.
  • His hand slid to her waist, anchoring her in place, his gaze hard on hers.
  • “Are you sure you want us to sleep together Bellamy?” he asks, his voice low and rough.
  • Bellamy’s lips part but no words come out. She couldn’t think, couldn’t move, not with him this close so she turn her face down quickly, unable to bear looking at him.
  • She shakes her head in fright, feeling stupid
  • He exhales slowly and let her go.
  • Bellamy release a seize breathe, slowly looking up as her little hands tighten by her side. She catches the smirk on his face.
  • “I wasn’t going to kiss you” Dominic states. His voice cruelly soft as he takes a step back.
  • Bellamy’s cheeks flush crimson and her heart thumps wildly in her chest. She is guilty as charge.
  • The tension between them has overwhelmed her judgement and made her forget herself.
  • She quickly regain her composure, bowing her head in a stiff apology. She whispers the apology words and turn swiftly on her heel, she rush out of there.
  • Dominic remain where he stands, his eyes fix on the door she has just run through.
  • Inside him, his wold snarls, disappointed and angry.
  • “Why didn’t you kiss her? It growls, the deep, feral voice scraping against his control.
  • Dominic clench his fists, his face look deadpan like always, colder and contain.
  • “Because if I do… I won’t be able to stop myself” he mutters tightly.
  • But his wolf did not quiet down rather it prowls beneath his skin, fangs bare in frustration.
  • “You want her!”
  • “I’ll hurt her” Dominic affirms, more to himself than his wolf.
  • His voice sounds quiet, strip bare for just a breath of a second and in that moment, his gaze falters.
  • He shut his eyes to drown the feeling, the thirst and bury it beneath ice.
  • Bellamy lean against the corridor wall, her chest heaving. Her hand fly to her chest trying to calm its frantic rhythm.
  • She is not sure if it is from the panic or the leftover tension that still sizzles on her skin.
  • What has she just done?
  • Bellamy close her eyes tightly, her lips tingled from how close his had been a minute ago.
  • She could still feel her body burning.
  • Just as she tries to take a breathe, her phone buzzes in her bag.
  • It’s from Sophia.
  • She click the link and it takes her to a news article.
  • ‘Gabriel Thompson, the heir of Thompsons is getting married to Sophia Martins, the heiress of the Brooks family’
  • Finally, they have stop with the pretense and show their true colors.
