Chapter 63

• Kate knew she wasn’t in her room nor the room she occupied in Denzel’s mansion. She could see the outside light, even though her eyes were shut. Her bed was far from the window. She had always hated sleeping near the window. When she was little, she thought a zombie apocalypse would happen and she would be easily attacked from the window. She cried to bed each night when her mother tucked her in, and when she had closed the door, Kate crawled under the bed. The fear accompanied her into her teenage years, and she moved her bed from the window.
• Growing to become an adult, she continued with the habit, and when she moved to Denzel’s mansion, she had restructured the room, shifting the bed away from the window. Not out of fear anymore—she didn’t believe that zombies existed anymore—but a habit.
• Her eyes opened. Slowly, she discovered she was lying on a hospital bed. The event before she lost consciousness played in her mind, and she shivered. Her hand flew to her side and she noticed the wound had been stitched.
