Chapter 7 Something Nagging at the Back of Her Mind

  • “Manxue, what exactly is wrong with you?” Liang Yimo was bewildered.
  • Suddenly, Su Manxue snorted, “Nothing is wrong. Just don’t ever call me again and don’t tell anyone that I’m your friend!”
  • “Did you run into any problems? Please tell me about it so that I can help you!” Liang Yimo asked with concern.
  • Su Manxue became impatient. “I’m good, so don’t overthink. Also, I’m not returning to the house we rented and that lousy company too. Don’t ever call me again because it’s very annoying. I’m hanging up!”
  • Beep…
  • It was only after listening to Su Manxue prattle did Liang Yimo remember the content of the messages she received while she was working during the day.
  • She clapped a hand to her forehead in frustration. She was so busy that not only had she completely forgotten about what Su Manxue told her, she even tried to be pleasant to her, but she was given the cold shoulder in the end.
  • Judging from how arrogant Su Manxue sounded, Liang Yimo was afraid she was really going to end her friendship with her.
  • She smiled bitterly. It was inevitable for friends to part ways due to various reasons sooner or later no matter how close they once were.
  • Therefore, Liang Yimo did not take what happened between herself and Su Manxue seriously.
  • Since Su Manxue was not going to be back, she had to look for someone else to share the rent.
  • Stretching, she went back to her room, took some clothes and went into the bathroom to take a shower.
  • When she picked up a wash bowl, she caught sight of her soaking blood stained dress in the bucket which she had taken off in the morning and realized she had yet to wash it. It made her think of the man last night at once.
  • She wondered whether the wound on his abdomen had become better, and she hoped the wound would not get infected.
  • With that thought in mind, Liang Yimo quickly shook her head, wondering why she was even thinking about that man.
  • With that, she took some washing powder and poured it into the bucket, not even noticing that the jade pendant left behind by that man last night which she had tossed by the basin in the morning was gone.
  • When Su Manxue arrived at the Leng family’s Hill Mansion, she already had a rough idea of the Young Master’s secret identity from all the glittering medals and awards hanging on the wall.
  • “Is the Young Master a soldier?” Su Manxue could not help but ask Mr. Liu with concern.
  • With a faint grin, Mr. Liu nodded but shook his head quickly after. He thought it was an honor to be the Young Master’s butler.
  • Yet, Su Manxue looked at him with anguish.
  • Did this mean she was going to live her future life like a widow if the man she was going to marry was a soldier?
  • Soldiers generally spent most of their time either at the military base or fighting with crooks.
  • No matter how rich the man was, it served no purpose at all as he was someone who could not even control his own fate.
  • If she had known about this earlier, she would not have passed herself off as Liang Yimo in the first place!
  • Regretting what she had done slightly, the gleam in her eyes became dimmer.
  • Mr. Liu could read her mind at one glance and because of that, he added, “Young Mistress Su, don’t worry because the Young Master will retire from the army this year. He will be getting involved in the family business to take over Leng Group from the Old Master!”
  • “Really?” Su Manxue’s eyes immediately lit up with hope.
  • Laughing dryly, Mr. Liu nodded his head slightly, but deep down, he wondered why the Young Master was interested in such a materialistic girl.
  • “Young Mistress Su, do you really want to marry the Young Master? You still have time to go back if you suddenly regret your decision to come here,” Mr. Liu reminded her with a smile.
  • Without hesitation, Su Manxue answered him firmly, “I’m going to spend the rest of my life with him!”
  • “Great! Since you’ve already made up your mind to marry the Young Master, please don’t hesitate to tell me anything you need. The Young Master has instructed me to try my best to help you no matter the request.”
  • Su Manxue was over the moon to hear that.
  • “Is it true that the Young Master will give me anything I want?” Su Manxue asked meekly, her eyes blinking.
  • In a very serious tone, Mr. Liu confirmed, “Yes!”
  • “In that case… What if I want the stars in the sky? Can the Young Master get them for me too?” she asked jokingly.
  • Mr. Liu answered confidently, “Of course!”
  • “I’m just kidding!” Su Manxue added sensibly right away while grinning from ear to ear. After a brief pause, she raised her brows and launched into a serious discussion with Mr. Liu. “Actually, I’m interested in acquiring a decoration and renovation company. Can you get it done for me?”
  • Mr. Liu nodded. “Young Mistress Su, just tell me what I need to do.”
  • After getting confirmation from Mr. Liu, Su Manxue raised her blows even more, and her lips curled upward into a triumphant and sly smile.
  • “Young Mistress Su, feel free to tell me everything you would like to have!” Mr. Liu added.
  • Young Master Leng had instructed him beforehand to make sure his future wife had a pleasant and enjoyable life at home.
  • “Hahaha… Hahaha…”
  • Listening to what Mr. Liu told her, Su Manxue laughed ecstatically; she was dizzy with joy.
  • This was exactly the lavish life of a rich man’s wife that she had yearned for!
  • Yet, it was supposed to belong to Liang Yimo in the beginning.
  • The truth would always be nagging at the back of her mind.
  • At dinner time, Su Manxue sat at the exquisite long dining table in Hill Mansion holding a pair of silver chopsticks in her hands, her eyes bright with excitement.
  • Looking at the sumptuous spread consisting of all sorts of palatable gourmet food before her, her mouth watered, and she had no idea where to start.
  • Back at the rented house, Liang Yimo only made a simple home cooked dish for herself. Sitting at the dining table in the kitchen, she slowly chewed, a bowl of rice in her hands.
  • When she shared the house with Su Manxue, Su Manxue never ate at home because there were plenty of men who were eager to buy her meals.
  • While Liang Yimo never meddled in Su Manxue’s private life, Su Manxue was also considerate enough to not bring any guys back to spend the night.
  • More often than not, Liang Yimo was the one who took care of Su Manxue in their daily lives.
  • Everytime Su Manxue was feeling unwell, having a fever or suffering from period cramps, Liang Yimo would go to the pharmacy to buy medicines for her with her own money, and she took care of her even though it was in the middle of the night.
  • Yet, Su Manxue never appreciated what Liang Yimo had done for her. As Liang Yimo came from a poor village, Su Manxue thought it was Liang Yimo’s honor to have her company in this first-tier big city, so Liang Yimo was obligated to take care of her.
  • Being unappreciative was the scariest trait a person could have.
  • Liang Yimo never made an effort to understand what sort of person her bestie, who stayed by her side every single day, really was.
  • Because Su Manxue smiled at her everyday, she thought their friendship had no problems.
  • Little did she know, Su Manxue had a vicious heart behind her smiles; her true self was hidden in the deepest corner of her heart.
  • After dinner, Liang Yimo cleaned up the kitchen, picked up her bag and went out.
