Chapter 4 Becoming the Wife of a Rich Man

  • As for Liang Yimo, she was more hardworking by nature, and she did not attach much importance to wealth and fame.
  • She had a boyfriend who was her high school classmate. They started dating each other after they finished their high school final exam.
  • Because of their exam results, they enrolled in different colleges, but fortunately, both colleges were situated in the same city. Therefore, they could still spend time with each other every weekend.
  • As Liang Yumo was studying in a junior college, she had much more free time in her schedule compared to He Mingxu who was studying in a university. Hence, ever since the first day in her first year, Liang Yimo scrimped and saved and worked hard to support both herself and her boyfriend.
  • He Mingxu told her that his lecturer had applied to the university for him to start his postgraduate studies in advance because of his excellent academic results. Therefore, Liang Yimo took leave to work part-time jobs, and she would give a big portion of what was left of her salary to He Mingxu after allocating some to pay for her own living expenses.
  • Their platonic relationship had lasted for almost a year already.
  • During that period, they merely held hands and hugged each other every time they met; their love was as pure and innocent as snow.
  • Although Su Manxue did not really know her boyfriend well, she had doubts about their relationship.
  • People would say that things would always go wrong for a poor couple. Just like Liang Yimo, He Mingxu came from a village, and he even needed his girlfriend to work part-time jobs to pay for his postgraduate studies. How bright a future could such a man have?
  • A whole load of work was waiting for Liang Yimo at the office.
  • Liang Yimo could not help but smile bitterly. “I have no choice because I need to rush a design blueprint for a client today. I’m working against the clock!”
  • “Be careful on your way to work then! By the way, can I borrow your cleansing cream? Mine is finished,” Su Manxue asked.
  • Su Manxue then took a glass and made her way toward the water dispenser.
  • Would she collapse out of exhaustion if she was as hardworking as Liang Yimo?
  • In fact, to some extent, Su Manxue looked down on girls from villages like Liang Yimo.
  • Although the two shared the same hometown and they indeed came from the same village, Su Manxue had actually stayed in the city together with her parents.
  • At least, she was an urbanite who was raised in the city, unlike Liang Yimo who was a country bumpkin without an impressive family background who lived in the village.
  • Living in a first-tier big city like Coastal City, Su Manxue’s life was just like how a woman staying in such a city would be in terms of her fashion sense, mannerisms and social circle.
  • As for Liang Yimo, although she was naturally a beauty, she never made any effort to dress herself up and she did not pay any attention to her fashion. Spending most of her life at college, the office and her house, Liang Yimo actually still harbored the wishful thinking of transforming her life into one like Cinderella through hard work!
  • Despite claiming to be Liang Yimo’s bestie, Su Manxue actually knew nothing about her, and she did not have the intention to get to know her either.
  • It was because she did not think they were from the same world.
  • She believed she would definitely marry a very rich guy in the future. Therefore, she had great makeup skills and knew how to dress herself up in order to flirt with rich men.
  • As for Liang Yimo, she always went around with her bare face and always dressed very plainly and casually. Toiling away all her life, she did not allocate any time to maintain her appearance at all. Hence, Su Manxue did not think any rich guy would be interested in her.
  • Now, only poor guys like He Mingxu who had a similar family background as her would be interested in her.
  • Liang Yimo did not have an inkling about what Su Manxue thought of her, but she knew herself well. She never thought she was in a very bad situation, and of course, she never dreamt of becoming Cinderella too.
  • She was merely a down-to-earth person and just did what she was supposed to do in life.
  • Because the cream would always rise to the top someday!
  • Seeing that Su Manxue did not ask her if anything strange happened last night, Liang Yimo was sure she had a good night’s sleep.
  • It was good for her to be ignorant of what took place in her room last night because in that case, she would not get involved in any unnecessary trouble.
  • Smiling in relief, Liang Yimo put on her shoes and opened the main door. “Go ahead and take it. It’s above the basin in my bathroom! I’ve got to go now!”
  • “Okay, goodbye!” After waving at Liang Yimo, she downed the water and put the glass down before she walked into Liang Yimo’s room.
  • She made her way directly to the bathroom. When she took the cleansing cream from the shelf, she chanced upon something that looked like jade beside it.
  • After taking a closer look at it, Su Manxue discovered it was a jade pendant. Her curiosity piqued, she picked it up and observed it.
  • She was sure the jade pendant was something very valuable as it looked exquisite, and she could even see the texture and the marbling of the jade clearly.
  • “When did Yimo own such valuable stuff?!” Su Manxue muttered to herself, impressed.
  • As her family was involved in the business of selling counterfeit goods which highly resembled the genuine products, she had some knowledge in jewelry appraisal. She decided to ask Yimo how she got the jade pendant when she went to the office later.
  • With that in mind, Su Manxue could not resist the urge to put on the jade pendant around her neck and admired her reflection in the mirror.
  • At that moment, the doorbell rang.
  • She walked out of Liang Yimo’s room to answer the door while muttering under her breath, “Yimo must have forgotten to bring the keys to the office!”
  • After opening the door, she was greeted by the sight of two men in black suits who were staring at her solemnly.
  • “Who are you guys looking for?” Smiling slightly, Su Manxue blinked at them and instinctively put her guard up.
  • The man who looked like the leader of the two sized her up. The moment he saw the jade pendant, which was the heirloom of the Leng family, he immediately bowed and greeted respectfully, “Young Mistress, good morning!”
  • “Young Mistress?” Aghast, Su Manxue stared at the man in front of her in confusion. “What do you mean by that?”
  • The man smiled knowingly before explaining, “What you’re wearing now on your neck is the jade pendant given to you by our Young Master. It’s an heirloom of his family!”
  • Heirloom of his family!
  • Instinctively, Su Manxue lowered her head to check out the jade pendant. Pleasantly surprised, something of grave importance suddenly hit her mind.
  • It seemed like the other party was someone very influential, but the jade pendant actually belonged to Liang Yimo…
  • What should she do? Should she tell the man that the jade pendant actually did not belong to her?
  • After giving it some thought, Su Manxue decided to find out more about the men’s background. “I still don’t quite understand what you mean.”
  • “Young Mistress, we’re from Leng Group and I’m the Young Master’s butler. You can call me Mr. Liu. I was sent by the Young Master here to pick you up,” the man explained patiently to Su Manxue.
  • The Young Master had instructed them to bring the woman who had saved his life back home by all means.
  • “Leng Group?!” Su Manxue was shocked. Overwhelmed by delight, she stuttered, “Do you mean the Leng Group which is involved in entertainment, business and politics? The top earning company in the entire country for ten years in a row?!”
