Chapter 5 The End of a Friendship

  • “Yes, Young Mistress.” Mr. Liu nodded with a faint grin. As Leng Group was renowned both locally and globally, basically everyone in the world knew about them.
  • Both surprised and delighted, Su Manxue pressed on, “May I know who’s the Young Master you’re working for?”
  • “My Young Master is the successor to Leng Group! Because of his unique identity, we can’t reveal his real name to you for the time being. After you get married to him, he’ll naturally tell you everything about himself. At the same time, you'll get to enjoy a luxurious and lavish life in the future!” Mr. Liu kept a smile on his face as he explained.
  • You'll enjoy a luxurious and lavish life in the future!
  • That phrase made Su Manxue overjoyed.
  • How tempting was that offer!
  • She just dreamt about marrying a rich guy last night. Little did she know, her dream would come true the next day!
  • “Does that mean I’ll be spared from sharing lousy places like this with someone else? Does that mean I’ll never have to squeeze my way onto the subway anymore? And, does that mean I’ll never have to work for anybody anymore?” Feeling hopeful, Su Manxue kept on asking questions as she danced around with joy.
  • Blinded by the temptation of wealth and fame, the fact that Liang Yimo was the true owner of the jade pendant completely slipped her mind.
  • She had even deemed herself as the owner of the jade pendant already!
  • Seeing how excited and thrilled Su Manxue was, Mr. Liu nodded his head with a bemused smile.
  • “That’s great! Please bring me there immediately! I want to be the wife of a rich man!” Su Manxue never thought her dream life would come so soon.
  • While Su Manxue was immersed in joy, Liang Yimo had already started working in front of her computer.
  • To Liang Yimo, getting hired as a permanent staff after her internship meant that she would have a stable job right after she graduated from college, and she would be able to avoid being unemployed after graduation.
  • From that point on, the lives of the two women headed in two different directions.
  • Su Manxue was exhilarated as this was her first ride in a luxurious car which was worth millions. At the same time, she was looking forward to seeing the Young Master of the Leng family.
  • What sort of man would he be?
  • Nervous and excited, Su Manxue looked somewhat at a loss as she sat in the rear seat of the car.
  • “Young Mistress, please fill in this form.” Mr. Liu who accompanied her took out a piece of paper and a pen from his briefcase and handed them to her.
  • She took them from him and looked at the form. Sheepishly, she asked with a smile, “May I know why I have to fill up this form?”
  • The information required on the form might look simple, but she had a feeling that she was getting background checked.
  • She had to fill in detailed information about her name, birthdate, occupation, home address, her family members and their backgrounds.
  • “So that it will be easier for us to send betrothal gifts to your parents,” Mr. Liu answered with a smile.
  • Looking at the form, Su Manxue could not help but feel apprehensive. Tentatively, she asked, “In that case, does the Young Master know my name? Also, why does he want to marry me all of a sudden?”
  • “Uhm…” Mr. Liu could not come up with an answer for her.
  • Early in the morning, the Young Master instructed him through a phone call to make his way to Room 1808 of Hope Condominium to pick up a girl who had the jade pendant. The Young Master only told him that the girl would become his wife soon.
  • He was not informed about anything else.
  • In fact, Mr. Liu knew what he was supposed to do without further instruction from the Young Master. Since the girl was going to be the Young Master’s wife, he should just follow the usual procedure of preparing a wedding ceremony.
  • Otherwise, what did the Young Master even need him for?
  • That was what Mr. Liu could glean from his boss’s instruction.
  • “Young Mistress, how did you know the Young Master?” After a brief pause, Mr. Liu started asking about Su Manxue’s relationship with the Young Master instead.
  • Despite never being in a relationship and never having any intimate interactions with women, the Young Master suddenly said he was going to get married. As his butler, of course he was curious.
  • Su Manxue was at her wit’s end when suddenly, a bright idea struck her. She stammered out, “I-It’s a s-secret!”
  • After dealing with Mr. Liu’s question, she became lost in thought, wondering what actually took place between Liang Yimo and the Young Master of the Leng family.
  • If the Young Master of the Leng family really knew Liang Yimo personally, how could his butler take the wrong person?
  • Could the jade pendant be the key?!
  • Stunned, Su Manxue lifted the jade pendant on her neck with her hands to take another look at it.
  • Judging from it’s exquisite workmanship, she could tell that the jade pendant was an antique.
  • Noticing that she was scrutinizing the jade pendant, Mr. Liu could not help but comment, “This jade pendant is the heirloom of the Leng family which has been passed down from their ancestors for a hundred years. Please take good care of it! When you give birth to a Little Master in the future, you’ll have to pass it to him when he reaches adulthood.”
  • “What happens if I can’t give birth to a son?” Su Manxue frowned in annoyance. From what Mr. Liu said, she already had a rough idea what kind of prestigious family the Leng family would be.
  • Mr. Liu smiled. “If the Young Master really loves you, even if you give birth to a girl, she’ll have the right to get the jade pendant too!”
  • In other words, whoever owned the jade pendant would be the future successor of Leng Group.
  • Mr. Liu did not tell Su Manxue about this because he supposed she would already be very content to be able to live a lavish life in the future.
  • “Young Mistress, please fill up the form first so that I can make arrangements for the wedding ceremony!” Mr. Liu urged.
  • Coming back to her senses, she flashed him an awkward smile. Still feeling rather excited, she picked up the pen to complete the form.
  • From that moment onward, her life would enter a completely new chapter.
  • Ah, so her name is Su Manxue.
  • Did she get that name because she was born on a snowy day?
  • Yes, her name suited her!
  • Inside an off-road vehicle which was camouflaged as a pile of metal scraps in an abandoned, dilapidated building, a man whose face was smeared with paint could not help but smile the moment he read the message he received from Mr. Liu.
  • “Fourth Young Master, I can’t believe you still have the mood to smile at your phone when we’re about to battle it out with Eagles soon?” His teammate, Han Jianfeng, whose face was smeared with ash, could not help but ask him with amusement at the sight of the rare smile on his face.
  • Could the cold, intimidating Leng Yechen, whose enemies would run at the mention of his name, actually smile?
  • This was something new to Han Jianfeng. Did the sun rise from the west today?
  • The smile on Leng Yechen’s face immediately vanished and he stayed silent.
  • Han Jianfeng saw him quickly type out a short reply, but he had no idea to whom the message was sent.
  • “Fourth Young Master, your location was exposed during the covert operation last night and you were hunted down by the people from Eagles. Yet, you managed to survive after jumping off the rooftop of the building. Did some pretty girl save your life last night?” Han Jianfeng asked with a sly smile while brandishing the gun in his hands.
