Chapter 2 Her Heart Goes Out to Him

  • Getting angry out of embarrassment, Liang Yimo snarled, “You scoundrel!”
  • Smack!
  • The moment the man let his guard down as he turned around to face her, a crisp and clear sound of a slap rang out in the house.
  • While she was cursing him, she lifted her hand to give the man another slap but to her astonishment, he collapsed onto the bed after her first slap.
  • Did she exert too much force in that slap?
  • She was dumbfounded at once.
  • When her vision got accustomed to the darkness, she could slowly make out the greyish outlines of the furniture in her living room under the dim lighting.
  • She rose to her feet and took out a candle and a lighter from the drawer of the study table beside her bed. After lighting the candle, she placed it on a white porcelain dish.
  • Outside, everything was still and quiet. Greyish clouds floated past the moon. Moonlight filtered into the house like a stream of running water, scattering all over the man’s body.
  • The man’s hair was as dark as ebony and it was chopped short. He had a chiselled handsome face and a tall nose, and his dry, thin lips were supple.
  • When her eyes moved downward, his sexy collarbone and muscular chest came into her sight…
  • The man looked mature. His hair was disheveled, his face was smeared with paint and there was stubble on his chin.
  • Although he looked untidy and grubby, his dashing and handsome face still shined through.
  • Yes, he was indeed a very good-looking man. On top of that, he was sexy in a very mature way, and he had a masculine charm.
  • Eh? Why was there something slimy on her hands?
  • Liang Yimo was pulled back to reality from her infatuation with the man to find that both of her hands felt sticky.
  • Instinctively, she lowered her gaze and could vaguely make out a bloody wound around 10 centimeters wide on the left side of the man’s abdomen right next to his defined six-pack and Apollo’s belt.
  • There was so much blood!
  • Hastily, Liang Yimo picked up her phone from the bedside table, but she hesitated just as she was ready to call the ambulance.
  • She thought about what happened earlier.
  • Could he be hiding from his enemies?
  • Would she be throwing him under the bus by exposing his location?
  • She sighed at the thought.
  • He had even kissed her without her permission earlier. In that case, should she even keep him at her place?
  • But, he would die otherwise!
  • After pondering over it for a while, Liang Yimo decided to help him.
  • From a small first aid kit, she fished out some cotton buds, ointment, gauze, a bottle of disinfectant, surgical sutures, a surgical needle as well as a pair of scissors.
  • Then, she went to the toilet to wash her hands before disinfecting them. After cleaning and disinfecting the man’s wound, she began stitching it up.
  • The first thing she needed to do was stop his bleeding. Fortunately, the wound on his abdomen was not very deep as it was relatively shallow and did not reach his internal organs.
  • The man seemed to be sleeping very soundly; he did not respond at all when she was dressing his wound.
  • After stitching him up, she applied hemostatic ointment on the wound before dabbing some anti-inflammatory medicine on it.
  • While she was bandaging his wound, her forehead beaded with sweat. She hoped that he would not suffer from any side effects after he woke up.
  • After all, she had only done wound suturing on animals which needed one after going through labor by Caesarean section.
  • Liang Yimo was equipped with some medical knowledge because her grandmother was a barefoot doctor in her village. Not only did her grandmother treat illnesses and deliver babies for the villagers, she did the same thing for animals too.
  • She was raised by her grandmother since she was little and had slowly become her grandmother’s right-hand man. Therefore, she knew how to deal with external wounds through observing how her grandmother did it.
  • Liang Yimo was raised in the village before she started high school. It was only after her grandmother passed away was she brought back to the city by her parents.
  • Carefully, she dressed the wound on the man’s abdomen and gently bandaged it with gauze.
  • She supposed he had lost consciousness because of excessive bleeding.
  • If he was unconscious for too long, she would have to send him to a hospital.
  • With that thought in mind, the man’s eyes slowly opened just as she finished cutting off the gauze.
  • Thank god, that man finally woke up!
  • Just as Liang Yimo let out a sigh of relief, the torchlight from her phone which she had placed at one side happened to shine on the man’s dark eyes which glittered in the darkness. A cold light reflected off of them, making her shudder.
  • Suddenly, he sat bolt upright. His hand shot out and tightly grabbed Liang Yimo’s slender neck. In an icy, cautious tone, he confronted her, “Hmph, are you trying to kill me?”
  • All at once, the scissors in her hand dropped to the floor, and her entire body went rigid.
  • The sweat on her forehead dripped down on the man’s wrist while she held her breath and tried to maintain her composure.
  • Liang Yimo was deeply worried about the possibility of the man breaking her neck due to him not controlling his strength well.
  • “Y-You’re mistaken! Also, y-you’re injured! I’m just trying to save your life!” With a frown, she gripped his wrists which felt icy to her hands.
  • She was surprised how strong he was despite losing so much blood!
  • After getting used to the dim surroundings, he began to size up the girl in front of him who had him on alert with his icy, dark eyes.
  • He could not really see her face clearly, but at the thought of that kiss earlier, he slowly loosened his hold and let her go.
  • “Give me your phone!” the man suddenly demanded in an icy tone.
  • The man changed his attitude even faster than flipping a page of a book.
  • In a daze, Liang Yimo picked up the phone on the bed which she handed to him.
  • After taking the phone from her, the man swiftly dialed a number and placed the phone next to his ear before saying to the person over the phone, “Kai, it’s me!”
  • “What’s your house number?” While the man was talking, he turned to look at Liang Yimo and asked as icily as before.
  • Liang Yimo answered with annoyance, “1808!”
  • Then, the man repeated the number she told him to the person on the other side.
  • He ended the phone call just like that before he casually tossed the phone back to her.
  • Liang Yimo caught her phone. Believing that he would not create anymore trouble, she rose to her feet and left the room.
  • She went to the kitchen and took out a pot of soup from the fridge before reheating it on the stove.
  • After it boiled, she poured some soup into a bowl, placed a spoon in it and brought it to her room.
  • The man who was sitting on the bed could not help but gulp as the faint smell of meat filled his nostrils.
  • Liang Yimo handed the bowl to the man who sat on the bed. “Drink it. It can help replenish your blood.”
  • With one of his hands, the man took the bowl from her and eagerly took a sip without even using the spoon.
  • He happened to be hungry.
  • As expected by him, both the soup and the meat in it tasted delicious.
  • This woman was quite a good chef!
  • “What soup is this?” the man demanded while he enjoyed the soup.
  • Liang Yimo answered him in a calm tone, “It’s pig liver, red dates and wolfberries soup, which is suitable for you as it works wonders in replenishing blood.”
  • Pig liver!
  • The expression on the man’s face changed slightly. Bracing himself, he asked, “Did you make this specially for me?”
