Chapter 3 Going Separate Ways

  • “No, it’s just leftovers from my dinner because I cooked too much. Don’t worry, the soup isn’t contaminated because I didn’t touch it,” Liang Yimo muttered in a soft voice.
  • She had prepared the soup for dinner to replenish her blood after her period just ended. Little did she know, her leftover soup would serve its purpose for this strange man too!
  • Then, she took out a sleeping mat from a cabinet and unfolded it on the floor beside the bed before saying calmly, “Since you’re injured, you can have the bed.”
  • “Hmph! Spill it. What do you want from me?” the man suddenly challenged as he put the bowl down after downing the soup at one go.
  • He had come across women of various kinds before—those who looked innocent, those who had a sweet face, those who were sexy, those who were mature, et cetera. In short, he had met them all.
  • Yet, more often than not, those women befriended him just because of his family background and also because they wanted to get something from him.
  • Therefore, he never had a fling with any one of those women who offered themselves to him.
  • He knew how to behave himself and stay calm when those women tried to seduce him.
  • Yet, he had no idea what had gotten into him during that desperate moment tonight which made him lose control and lust after the girl.
  • In response to the man’s haughty tone, Liang Yimo narrowed her eyes and rebutted him with annoyance, “Mister, have you gone crazy because of losing too much blood? You’re the one who crawled into my house just now, did something inappropriate to me and collapsed on my bed. I’m keeping you here and taking care of you purely out of kindness because I felt sorry for you, and you looked so pitiful with the wound. Mind you, you’re a heavily injured stranger who is being hunted by your enemies. I’ll be grateful enough if you don’t bring any trouble to me!”
  • She was always a kind-hearted person, and she would bring home any injured animal she stumbled upon.
  • Out of kindness?!
  • The man was stunned. Throughout the last twenty four years of his life, this was the first time a woman told him something like that.
  • Without taking another look at the man, Liang Yimo kept her phone away and lay down on the sleeping mat.
  • She did not care whether he wanted to sleep or not as she was exhausted from treating his wound earlier, and she felt sleepy.
  • Also, she supposed the man would not lust after her again with that freshly stitched up wound on his abdomen.
  • “Was that kiss earlier your first?” the man asked.
  • Very soon, Liang Yimo dozed off, so she answered blurrily, “Yup…”
  • It was!
  • That was her first kiss…
  • At first, she had planned to keep it for her boyfriend, He Mingxu, but it was robbed by that man.
  • With regret and frustration, she fell asleep.
  • Smiling, the man really admired Liang Yimo for her straightforward character. Frankly, he replied, “What a coincidence. That was my first kiss too.”
  • However, Liang Yimo did not catch that because she already fell asleep.
  • Of course, he was a fan of her cooking too. As someone who hated pig liver, her soup was so tasty that it actually made him gladly eat it .
  • “You saved my life but I robbed you of your first kiss and took advantage of you. How about I repay the favor by making you my wife?” the man asked without paying any notice to Liang Yimo.
  • Yet, only her breathing could be heard.
  • It was only then did the man realize that she had already fallen asleep, and he smiled in resignation.
  • It seemed like she did not care about him at all.
  • Unwittingly, he was seized by a feeling that he had actually met Liang Yimo a long time ago from the moment he kissed her.
  • Despite it being a bizarre feeling to him, it somehow seemed like he was fated to feel this way about her.
  • By the time Liang Yimo woke up, it was already early the next morning. The power supply of her house was still not back on yet.
  • When she opened her eyes, she discovered she was lying on the bed instead of the sleeping mat.
  • Puzzled, she sat bolt upright at the thought of the incident that had taken place last night.
  • The sleeping mat was still on the ground, and there was an empty bowl on the bedside table. There was no one else except herself in the room.
  • Could she have sleepwalked last night?
  • Just as she was going to assume what she experienced last night was just a nightmare, she lowered her head, and she got a huge fright when she caught sight of her nightgown which was splattered with bloodstains.
  • Last night was not a nightmare!
  • That man…
  • Hastily, she got out of bed, opened the door and glanced outside. At the same time, she let out a faint sigh of relief. She supposed the man had already been taken away by his friend.
  • It was better for him to be gone.
  • Right now, she was only an undergraduate student in her first year.
  • In this first-tier big city, not only did she have to earn her own living, she also needed to support her boyfriend, He Mingxu’s postgraduate studies.
  • As she was already cash-strapped, she really could not afford to take care of one more person.
  • What happened last night was like a dream to her. Although she lost her first kiss, she had saved a person’s life, and by doing that, she could probably accumulate some good karma for her grandmother.
  • Smiling in relief, she decided not to take what took place last night seriously.
  • Taking off her blood-stained nightgown, she walked toward the bathroom for a shower. As there was no electricity last night, she reeked of sweat.
  • Standing before the mirror in her bathroom, she was startled by the sight of a jade pendant hanging on her neck.
  • The character ‘Leng’ intertwined with a lifelike dragon was carved on the jade pendant on her chest.
  • Could this be left behind by the man who barged into her room last night? But, why did he leave this behind for her? It looked quite valuable and expensive.
  • Not only did she not know who that guy was, he was also being hunted by his enemies. Liang Yimo reckoned that he must have a complicated background.
  • Could he be someone from the underworld? Or… The point was, no matter who the man was, she did not want to get involved in his mess!
  • After making up her mind, she immediately removed the jade pendant from her neck and casually tossed it by the basin.
  • “It’s the beginning of a new day. Liang Yimo, you must work hard today!” After taking a shower and getting changed, she gave herself a pep talk in front of the mirror.
  • Just as she was about to head out, the door of the other bedroom of the house opened.
  • Her bestie, Su Manxue, who rented the house together with her, yawned as she walked out of her bedroom in a pair of slippers, looking unkempt.
  • With a faint grin, Liang Yimo greeted her, “Manxue, good morning!”
  • “Morning, Yimo. Eh, are you going to work?” Su Manxue asked as she stared at Liang Yimo who was going out with her sleepy eyes while she lazily stretched.
  • Su Manxue and Liang Yimo were from the same hometown. Not only were they coursemates at university, they were housemates as well as best friends. They applied for leave together to get work experience and both of them were hired by a renovation and decoration company as interns. Ever since then, they also became colleagues who basically told each other about everything in their lives.
  • Although they were fated to be best friends, they had completely different personalities.
  • Su Manxue was lazy by nature and she worshipped money. She got herself new boyfriends faster than she got new clothes, and she had a thing for tall, rich and handsome men.
